I believe that he's holding up the economy for political reasons. The vast majority of Americans are hurt by high rates and it's pushing the housing market to total gridlock. That has the potential as we have seen just 15 years ago to cause a recession. Plus, Powell isn't even an economist. He's a lawyer. That might explain some of why the only consistency in the FED's moves over his timeframe is that it is extremely dovish when Democrats have power and extremely hawkish when Republicans do. There is zero consistency in economic policy tied to actual economic indicators such as inflation.
I disagree. I'm not a fan of Powell but his term expires in about 10 months. He should stick it out instead of succumb to Trump's pressure. It's just not a good look.

Powell, and just as importantly the rest of the Fed appointees, simply aren't equipped to understand the implications of Trump's policies. Get someone in who can start retraining the Fed.
