Steelers coaching Search

You've never heard me claim anything WRT Philly sports. I was a long-suffering philly fan, born in 76.

Flyers were a good organization when I was young, but never got on the hump. They've been a bad organization of late since Ed Snider declined and then Comcast fully took over.
Phillies were generally awful with a anomaly of '93 with the motley bunch of Kruk, Daulton, Dykstra, etc. They've been one of the best orgs since Bill Giles sold them
Eagles were terrible under Braman. Laurie is one of the best owners in Football and the Eagles have been one of the best franchises of the 2000s. 76ers - No comment

Bottom line, whether in Philly, Boston, or anywhere else, Ownership matters.
The Redskins were a successful franchise under Jack Kent Cook and then Daniel Snyder burned it down. Its amazing that within a few years of him selling, the team has returned to competence on the field.
Moving to Harrisburg from West Chester when I was a wee lad, I maintained a connection to Philly teams because the local TV stations carried their games, except for the Eagles. But WBAL had a great signal, so it was the Colts. Johnny U, Tom Matte, Mike Curtis. They saved me from being an Eagles fan in those days. Re the Phillies, 1964 had a lasting effect on me. John Callison was a lefty like me, so he was the man. The dominant Sixers traded Chamberlain after 67, so that was that. Ed Snider was a good owner but lost his mojo as he tried to recreate the 70s style that was basically outlawed by the league.
So I sympathize, but enjoy those rare times when any of the Philly teams win.

BTW, a great article on Johnny Callison, for any Phillies fan.

I don't understand the hate. Dude won a SB and has a great track record of his tenure. He's a sure fire HOFer. In the end, the Steelers just couldn't develop a QB and it isn't like their cast off QBs were any good someplace else. Their drafting, which had been the best in the league, sucked the last six years. I don't know of any real transgressions he's had.

When I look at coaches, I put him a notch below Harbaugh (ravens), Payton (broncos who was suspended previously), and Vrable (who was recently fired).
Tomlin was a good coach. The Steeler’s problem is not all Tomlin, it’s offensive talent, specifically, offensive line and QB. Now, there is some responsibility on Tomlin because he has been the guy drafting for 19 years. It’s probably a good thing for both the Steelers and Tomlin. Both need a fresh new start.

The goodwill of a storied football franchise has been squandered. This is hard to fix in smaller markets, and especially concerning when cult-level fan loyalty is at risk. Meanwhile, Boston teams always seem to find a way to either have championship caliber teams or have a plan to correct things. When the Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots slump, it's not for very long periods. Chicago and New York, except for the Yankees, don't have it as good.

BTW, here's a great Steelers bar in Cave Creek AZ. It's large and is packed on game day.
The NFL has a salary cap. The small market thing is not a big issue for the Steelers.
