Again, a non-Penn Stater interloper AD with an uninspiring resume, but who checked off all the right boxes of the admin and trustees.Again, when Sandy left, she took a giant **** in the PSU toilet bowl and left it there for everyone else to deal with.
Now we have a guy who lost a very winnable game this week and against ND by starting guys who suck and sticking with a failed offensive scheme
IMO, a more relevant thought experiment is Franklin’s status. While I like James and respect a lot of what he has accomplished during his tenure, I do think it’s time to start asking the question regarding his future employment at PSU. And if the belief is to go another direction, who is a viable better replacement? IMO, it almost has to be a big name that would take recruiting to the top ten/ top five level on a consistent basis. And there are not many of those coaches available that would seek the job.
Doubt if any of those other than Meyer would be available. Meyer might have too much baggage for PSU, but at this point I would not be opposed.Yea. I just wanted to break from the Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh defaults.
I don’t disagree. I like James a lot and he has brought the program to the pinnacle in terms of facilities and infrastructure. He is a good recruiter, not great, but that has something to do with the games he has not won. His players behave, or he gets rid of them. His players graduate and he tends to help them become better men. This is all very positive. The question is, is it enough? I think people could live with occasional success against top tier programs, but he has not been able to deliver. Bottom line, considering his contract, he is hear for the foreseeable future.I've always been a big fan of our coach and I continue to think his name is somewhere on a list of the top-15 or so current coaches in the game...where on that list is a matter of debate. I mean, I'm pretty sure he'd be scooped up in short order if he were to leave Penn State.
That said, I also think there comes a point for all but the untouchable coaches when a guy simply maxes out and things start to get stale. Franklin took his best shot, came tantalizingly close more than once, but just couldn't quite close the deal...couldn't get over the hump.
Now he walks around with the media snickering about his big-game jinx and a fan base getting increasingly restless. You'd be tempted to feel bad for the guy except for the king's ransom that he pulls in as compensation for his coaching agonies.
In any case, I think the reality is that for the foreseeable future, James is not going anywhere unless he wants to go. And even if he did, do we really think we could bring some coaching ace in to replace him? I mean, guys like Matt Rhule really don't move the needle all that much while any other proven coach would have to look at the hard realities of Penn State's place in this chickenshit conference and ask himself if he really wants to deal with that...with the phantom blades of grass that negate game-turning fumble recoveries and the like. The pattern is pretty clear after all.
Of course all this discussion is academic if Franklin gets this team to the playoffs and wins at least a couple games there...not to mention if he somehow gets the whole enchilada. And that could still happen. I wouldn't bet money on it at this point but it could.
Post that over on the ON3 board and look forward to a 12 page thread with Lando gas bagging on and on how nothing is really Allar's fault. Yeah he threw the game blowing pick in our three most recent big games but it is all the scheme.I mean, if you could magically have either one starting this Saturday and the rest of the way.
It's a silly kind of what-if type question but interesting to ponder.
My own answer: Beau...based on the comparative performances of both guys so far this season plus the way he saved the game against Wisconsin last year plus I think he's got an advantage in the department of mental toughness which is critical for a QB.
Too bad Lando isn't around. This post would make his head explode.
With this Rojas injury we could absolutely be 9-3. Indiana has excellent receivers and I can see them running wild in the middle of the field where Rojas should have been. James will be on notice once we miss the playoffs this year and then I'm afraid he starts circling the drain over the next 2-3 years. My prediction is we will have no choice after about 2027 but to cut bait. At that point even the staunch "but, but who could do any better!" crowd will have come around seeing the lunacy of losing every big game and either missing the playoffs or losing in the first rd.I've always been a big fan of our coach and I continue to think his name is somewhere on a list of the top-15 or so current coaches in the game...where on that list is a matter of debate. He literally calls Beau a coward for portaling. Totally bizarre just to get attention.Haha! Yeah, figures. Last year after Beau saved the Wisconsin game for us, he went on and on about how Beau sucked and we shouldn't kid ourselves about that and the great throws he made were actually poor throws, etc and so forth.
Honestly, the dude's a bit of a wackjob.
He creates havoc over there just like he did at rivals. In fact, it may be worse now.He literally calls Beau a coward for portaling. Totally bizarre just to get attention.
The Oregon qb takes 2 seconds to get rid of the ball. Allar is twice that, so it gives the illusion the line is breaking down when the reality is allar is super slow in processing. If the OL blocks like they did against Oregon, it won't make much difference. BTW, Allar was the second leading PSU rusher with a 4.7 YPC average for just under 31% of our rushing game.
The same as last year. Gabriel was untouched as he got off quick passes. The underlying problem is that the psu brain trust didn't learn from it.The Oregon qb takes 2 seconds to get rid of the ball. Allar is twice that, so it gives the illusion the line is breaking down when the reality is allar is super slow in processing.
The O-Line has issues but Allar is clearly too slow with getting the ball out.He creates havoc over there just like he did at rivals. In fact, it may be worse now.
Yep, there are several videos out there demonstrating his slow and flat out missed reads. The plays were there to be made and he missed too many open wrs, tes and rbs.The O-Line has issues but Allar is clearly too slow with getting the ball out.
Who will replace him that’s better is a legitimate question. Everyone assumes that the best coaches in the country will line up for the PSU job. I’m not so sure that’s accurate. The “elite” teams we aspire to all out spend us in NIL money. I’m not opposed to going in a different direction, I’m just not convinced it will be that much different. With this Rojas injury we could absolutely be 9-3.
