We are #3 in the coaches poll

1st round RBs are extremely rare. Corum/Edwards was a great combo, Corum had the injury issue plus he wasn't ever going to run a 1st rd 40 time. Edwards had the 40 time, but he absolutely was mediocre during their title year and did less last year (Mullings ended up being the bell cow).

I love our combo, but I doubt either are 1st rounders. My only fault with their tweet.
Good point about the "need for speed" element in RBs for the NFL.

Now, I admit that I don't watch many NFL games; hence, I very likely am way off with this opinion. But it seems as if just about all the NFL RBs have that "home run" capability from anywhere on the field. If that is true, I don't see Kaytron getting drafted very high. Singleton has that HR gear, but Allen, whom I really like, seems more like a Matt Suhey, Sam Gash type of runner. Heck, even our great TB Richie Anderson ended up a FB in the NFL, I think.

Now that I think about it,I seem to recall Leroy Thompson and Michael Robinson also playing FB in the NFL, though neither was a FB at Penn State. Did Evan Royster play FB, too? I don't remember.

Anyway, I am thrilled that both #10 and #13 are back for 2025. I don't much care about their NFL careers (other than wishing them success and good health, of course) unless they help recruit a stud RB for the future.

I'm right there with you. Henderson from OSU is about as complete of a RB as any to turn pro the last couple years and he still fell to R2. McCaffrey, Henry, and Philly Saquon are showing what elite RBs can do (and that probably helped Jeanty go R1), but most teams are content waiting on a back later whether an RB should be R1 or not.

Speed kills and having speed will get you extra looks and opportunities. A back like Allen has to do 5 things well to earn his place. And even then, he's probably not going to overwhelm anybody with his style.

RBs like Allen are valuable in the NFL even he is never a starter. Tough runners with vision and who can also pass protect have long NFL careers. That is Kaytron Allen.

I would add that our WR room may or may not be ready. You bring in 3 transfers and they may pan out, 2 may pan out, or they may all underperform expectations. I think we'll be ok and get a boost from Howard and/or Denmark most likely. But those who point out the question mark of exactly what we get at WR are right do so IMO as well.

...and they've got four games to get their game-day timing down. I expect to see PSU try to get up double digits early on the ground and then throw on 2/3rd of the remainder of plays.
