Hiring an in-house position coach would be an absolute disaster that would send us on a Nebraska-like downward spiral. Terry is not a legitimate candidate. This is like handing the keys to a Ferrari over to your 10 year old son because he loves it and rode in the backseat for years.Wait, what??? I'm super hot. Just ask my wife...
No seriously, all kidding aside, if we were as hot as you think, they'd be lining up to coach us...instead of the opposite.
You wanna bet on Lincoln Riley? I'll give you odds.
This is 2025, Mary. Not 1975...or 1985...or even 1995. A lot of water has gone over the dam during the last 30 years.
Let's see how this plays out. Money can buy anything...but the coaching products are fast disappearing off the shelves.

Your view is myopic. No one can match our fan support. There is no sporting event that can compare to a Penn State white out.Wait, what??? I'm super hot. Just ask my wife...

It isn't. It could be a highly successful OC/DC or an up and coming head coach. It simply cannot be a position coach. It's too big of a jump. It's like making a mid-level manager become the new CEO. They aren't ready and don't have the experience. You need someone who has excelled at or close to the level of responsibility that the position requires. Why is being a OC or DC the deciding factor? Using that logic, then Kraft should of advanced Kotenicki or Knowles as the interim head coach. Terry seems to be able to manage people pretty well. He hasn't won a big game, but considering the circumstances, he almost beat the #2. He also has the identical record of Franklin this year and played a tougher schedule. If you think that Mich State and Rutgers are weak, how weak were the first 3 teams that Franklin beat?
Except his title was ‘Db coach/assistant head coach’. That means he was involved in a lot of the organizational management. It isn't. I doubt that assistant head coach label for a position coach is much more than a justification for higher pay and not truly an indication of many head coaching responsibilities. This is part of how Franklin was renegotiating his contract and ensuring that he would get more for assistants.Except his title was ‘Db coach/assistant head coach’. He was given that title for a reason. I doubt it was to keep him from leaving as he is about as true Blue as Paterno. He wasn’t going anywhere.
That means he got the title because he showed both value and talent.
Does anyone know what responsibilities he was assigned? We know he was top recruiter.
Which means he knows the system, the money, the high school coaches, the players, the lettermen, donors, sponsors, key administrators and more.
And let’s face it, in this now-professional sport, it’s all about recruiting and money….which are the same thing now.
