Week 3: Villanova at #2 Penn State (3:30 PM Sat, FS1) Gameday Thread

"Coach Kotelnicki, Oregon has been effective in hiding its blitzes and mixing up coverages, causing Drew to make bad decisions. How do you plan to counter this in the second half?"

Ill-prepared. The coaching staff and players living and working in that Penn State bubble. Lots of media/podcast interviews, lots of fun. The team needs to be sequestered over the next two weeks.

There's no way he'd be starting.
No but maybe he should have.

I don't know what the problem is but we're worse than last year so far. The only major loss was Warren and Reynolds looks pretty good.

The problem has to be some combination of Allar, the OL, and Kotelnicki

Trying to wrap my head around the offensive scheme. East-west, evasive running is not their thing. Quick hitters. Both in running and passing. If the WRs could get some separation, then fine. But they don't. The recent sideline passes to the open Clifford and Hudson worked. A throw to the TE in a middle seam worked. Stick with those and run Nick and Kaytron with quick hitters between the tackles.
The term "twitchy" has been used to describe a player's quick, evasive style. It can never be used to accurately describe Penn State's play style. It's a Big10 thing.

If this is PSU's rushing attack, then UO's plan is to make Allar throw. If PSU had a "game theory" OC, then plays would be developed to counter this. But PSU hasn't figured out how to exploit the other team's weaknesses and game situation.

Hudson clearly not open but Allar tosses it anyway. 3 years and he still doesn't have the ability to recognize receivers open and those not....

And Allen has clearly shown he's the #1 RB this season. At least he has to me.....

Allar should just stay away from the deep ball unless there's broken coverage and the receiver is open by at least ten yards. Overthrows, underthrows, no loft, whatever. He's just not good at it.
