When you can’t stop the run…

Bad things happen.

And we didn’t stop the run (and I’m not just referring to qb runs) ALL day. Also, what happened to our DTs getting penetration and our DEs getting pressure on the qb and keeping contain. LBs didn’t tackle well either. We also didn’t defense the run well vs Oregon.

Was at the 9 ot Illinois game and we didn’t stop the run in that game and allowed a subpar team to play with us (and didn’t adjust to their unbalanced lines, but that’s another discussion).

PSU has to have better defensive line play (and not just from DDS) but I’m not sure we have the personnel. Everyone’s talking about the offense but it was our defense that was downright offensive.

And how was it allowed to get that way? Depleted, underperforming, and perhaps average talent at LB, DL, and WR. What else does the coaching staff not know about big time football and how to build rosters?

I had hopes that there would be some young players step up at both DT and DE. At both positions great experience and maturity was lost. Carter, Vanover and Vilbert and DE, and Ellies, Izzard and Beamon at DT. All that phyical maturity and experience it seems was not nearly replaced and it is showing up big time.

Losing King at LB seems to have beem more so replaced with Campbell, who seems to be the only real playmaker left at LB with Rojas out.

That was quite a bit to lose. But, like you, I thought we'd have some youngsters step up. We've done a pretty good job of that in the past. Franklin is now talking about the players on defense not being able to play as fast as usual because of the new scheme.

I find it interesting that Campbell has been so good, because the film breakdowns I saw on him at UNC after he committed to us suggested he was frequently out of place, but a sure tackler when he wasn't out of place. He's actually been a pleasant surprise. I still don't understand how Linebacker U seems to be short of linebackers.
