Who has exceeded expectations and who has come up short PSU so far this year

Exceeded:
Amare Campbell - 15 tackles last night.
Chaz Coleman - Most of us knew nothing about him before the year started.

Below expectations:
Nick Singleton - What happened to him?
Drew Allar - Seems to be regressing
OL - Lots of depth but no stars.
Kotelnicki/Franklin - Didn't have the team prepared physically or strategically in spite of bye week

You nailed it. May I respectfully add... WR - still no separation. And that might fall under the Kotelnicki/Hagans category.

IMO, the PSU football brand has been relegated to Auburn/TCU status. To be in the top ten, the short term approach for 2026 is to portal in six stars on offense (elusive QB, fast RB, fast WR, fast WR, OT, OG) and four stars on defense (big DT, disruptive DE, quick and nasty LB, playmaker S). Outbid, pay the big bucks now, and avoid that accelerated slippery slope into obscurity (e.g. Florida, Pitt, Nebraska) to which there is no coming back.

I think DDS is holding serve despite being blatantly held several times last night.

OL needs to be reconfigured:
- Donkoh back to RT as starter
- See if Cousins can replace Dawkins @ Center
- Give Shanahan a Crack @ starting RG.

Don't say it can't be done. OSU scrambled their OL lineup several times last year when players were injured or not producing.

Singleton is a WR playing RB. He was the same last season, just we played a LOT of bad teams last year.

My expectations were low for him so he met my very low expectations.

OL, they weren't as bad as people are saying. No worse than the Ducks OL last ngiht. The difference was QB.

Allar - below expectations.

Considering Oregon’s speed at receiver and their star TE, I thought the secondary played well. Most of their pass completions were off scramble drill, and we really didn’t give up any explosive pass plays. Especially considering how long they were on the field.

Yep true. The Oregon Qb was extending plays and finding guys open long after he should have had to run or be tackled

OC changes, result stays the same. Franklin has to be accountable at some point if things don't change.

Franklin is limited as a coach. At the same time I have little doubt the administration is looking to extend his contract at the first opportunity.

We're not going to be Pitt but we could certainly be like Florida or Tennessee

I'm mixed on the WRs. None of them were top 25 in the portal and none of them were rated as high as Harrison Wallace (4*, 17th rated WR).

Hudson was 3* and 48th ranked WR in the portal
Ross was barely 4* 30th and ranked WR in the portal
Pena was 4* and 26th ranked WR in the portal

They're not running away from people but they've made some plays. I also think they've had a half a step on defenders at times but Allar was hesitant to pull the trigger.

Agree. Secondary was very solid. Virtually all big gains came as result of scramble while DDS was being blatantly mugged

From the various panned out replays, the receivers don't get open due to no confusing lining up and/or routes, and they don't mesh, juke, and/or make sharp cuts to separate. An out pattern from the slot guy, for example is go downfield seven yards, then change direction an run towards the sideline. Same technique in running a post (but it did worked for Ross on the TD). Again, a small sampling. Unless they're KJ Hammler, they're not going to be separating from many corners or safeties who have the same or greater speed.

Yep, none of them are better than Wallace. Collectively they may be an improvement, but I'm not believing that until we see what Denmark and Howard can do. Franklin brought in the 3 transfers and seems determined to play them no matter the results, which at this point in the season are not exactly much of an overall improvement.

The true freshman 5 star Oregon WR Moore was by far the best WR on the field last night and until Franklin directs enough NIL to go and get a top 5 high school WR with length and speed PSU won't likely have an offense that can get the chunk plays through the air that makes top 5 teams respect PSU's passing game enough to allow the running game to flourish in those games. He needs to set aside $1million for a top top WR talent, or whatever it takes. The odds of finding the next ARob among the 2-3 star WR's that Franklin and Hagans for the most part have brought in are slim and none.

Ross played well given his opportunities as did Pena. One of Allars "passes" to Hudson doinked off of Hudson's helmet. Kotelnicki's play calling and Allars accuracy/consistency issues continue to keep this offense from developing any rhythm and being able to sustain drives consistently throughout games.

Allar's accuracy seemed better in the 4th quarter and first OT. When he's allowed to let just sling it because we have to, he makes some nice plays.
