I have 2nd row tickets on the end PSU shoots twice at for Thursday March 5th. Sure hope this blows over by then......

It will be interesting to watch. I don't know if there is some sort of "zero tolerance" policy within the Ath Dept that will drive a mandatory punishment, but if the facts are as we have been led to believe, then this seems like self-defense to some extent. If the DA drops the felony charges but decides to pursue the misdemeanor, then he believes that a crime was still committed, even if provoked by the 21yo drunk guy.I have 2nd row tickets on the end PSU shoots twice at for Thursday March 5th. Yep, his family should have gotten him out of there. He who gets physical first loses in court
I didn't see it posted here, but the felony charges are already dropped by the prosecution. The charges came from SCPD, not the DA's office. Now that the DA's office has reviewed it, the most serious charges are already dropped, as I expected. Gavin hasn't been able to present a defense yet, either. If the story we've heard about the victim accosting McKenna's mother is true, I think this may be a defense of others case. I think most people could understand someone being protective of their mother. Even a mistaken belief that she was under physical attack or about to be can be a defense, as long as the force used was proportionate to the threat.
He’s going to have to get used to ankle biters. Scoreboard. Just laugh it off.Yep, his family should have gotten him out of there.
I haven't heard but it was just announced his hearing has been postponed. Since it is now scheduled for the middle of spring break and right before the tourny, it may be postponed again.Any word on McKenna's status with the team as he works his way through this thing?

I was just told, by a former player, that the school and team have decided to allow him to play until this is resolved. This is "for now" unless something else comes up.Any word on McKenna's status with the team as he works his way through this thing?
I think, most damning, is that the kid hung around outside the restaurant after being kicked out. It would seem doing this is due to some kind of ill intent and could be considered threatening. A lot depends on the video of the physical punch. Did Gavin sucker punch him or what the kid threatening them with words, non-verbal communications and body placement. Based on what we've heard, it would be hard to get a jury to convict, IMHO> But nobody wants to waste their time with a drawn out jury trial. I would imagine the prosecutor would be happy to get away with a minor misdemeanor and a ~$200 fine. The kid may agree to not sue as long as his medical expenses are paid. All of that leaves a bad taste in one's mouth but overall, it is a very inexpensive outcome. The instigator's background, communications, and motivations would be investigated, I would think. I'm not sure what's allowed for discovery in such cases.
It's hard ya know....I bet that Pburg reporter had to cover the Opera....just too much else going on to worry about sportsA trash reporter from one of the Pittsburg stations yelled at a reporter who attended the hockey coach's presser that nobody asked the coach about the status of McKenna. The reporter asked him why he wasn't there, told him to do his own work. The 'burgh reporter said that management didn't fund it as they don't report on PSU directly. He then got trashed for attacking those that did.
Worse, then a reporter said that he asked three specific questions about McKenna and had he been there or did the most basic reseach, he'd have known that. When he asked, the coach said that PSU Hockey hasn't heard a peep from the NCAA about McKenna's status nor has anyone at the university outside the hockey team said anything. The inference was that it was up to the AD and the team.
Then the reporter went off saying he doubted that was true and that the coach should be asking the AD and compliance people what to do. The reporters that attended told him to F off and asked if he was so smart about PSU, why wasn't he there. It was pretty funny to watch the local reporters hammer him.
There isn't much actual reporting on PSU locally in Pittsburgh. The PPG years ago did do a good bit more but it was disproportionately negative. And recently they have twice as many articles that take up stupid amounts of space in their paper on Pitt women's volleyball, even though they've never actually won an NCAA tourney despite being the favorite a couple years. And in 2025 didn't make it to the championship game, with the team that beat them getting beat by the PSU women who won the championship. The PPG has announced that they will be shuttering their doors and quit producing a "newspaper" in May, but that may be a negotiating tactic. It won't be much of a loss if they go belly up. Their news reporting is also so decidedly one sided that it's not worth reading and they have a strange idea on what "business" is and what is appropriate for a "Business" section as well. I hate to admit that I delivered such an out of touch rag in my youngest days...........A trash reporter from one of the Pittsburg stations yelled at a reporter who attended the hockey coach's presser that nobody asked the coach about the status of McKenna.
