Who knows what was said by whom to whom. I'd have hoped that Matt pitched Grunk to stay with a promise that there would be a fair competition for the starting job. But I don't know if that happened or not.

As it is, if Rocco comes here and becomes the starter but doesn't pan out, there's going to be a whole lot of flak coming Matt's way. That's just the nature of the beast.

At the end of the day, Grunk looked very good when pressed into a starting role in the middle of the year. He made huge progress in just a short time until the point that he was the star of the 2nd half of the bowl game against Clemson. And now he's gone.
 
The local radio host have been saying Grunk is most likely gone for quite a while, so not surprising to me. Watch him end up at Indiana or another contender.

And apparently Speca at LB as well. He got passed up by Tatsch.

Anyone else surprised by the number of players that could be contributor going to the portal so far?

The first thing I would do as the new coach would be to identify top players I wanted to retain. This tells me that Campbell wasn't able to make an effective sales pitch even with Terry Smith's help.

Doesn't PSU have enough money? Are players just pissed about Franklin? Was it the uncertainty of position coaches? Or are they unimpressed with Campbell?
 
If Grunk is gone, I am off the Campbell bandwagon. He is better than Brecht because he has performed very well on a much bigger stage. Yuo don't throw away a 4 star QB who has played as well as Grunk for a 1 yr tag along.
Even if he is in the portal, the right $ could keep him here. Maybe he d8d not like what they offered for 2026. No way should Brecht be paid more.

1. Maybe the GM under valued him.
2. Maybe this is to determ8ne what he is worth.
3. Nothing says that the Lions can't top his gest offer.
4. Maybe he was told that Brecht will start get more $.
5. Neither Clifford or Allar could lead this team to beat top teams. Grunk is the closest I have seen since Trace. IMHO, losing Grunk would cripple team morale. It would be an unforgivable error.

I think entering the portal is a way of negotiating for more money, but does that mean the ones announcing that they are staying happy with the contract they already have, or did they get a new contract? I guess the ones entering the portal aren't happy with what was offered maybe
