2025/26 Transfer Portal & Roster Changes Thread

I feel good about Grunk. IIRC he completed 70% of his passes and he seemed to improve in each game. IMO he would be a big loss.
I feel good about him as well. And I believe a coach like Campbell, his QB coach and McSorely will evaluate Grumk against the QB's that are available and put together a QB room that includes the best starter they can find as well as a competent backup and a couple of young QB's that they'll be developing. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done by the B/W game.

Beau entering the portal really mixes things up. I could see him following Franklin to VT, but I could also see Grunk ending up there. IMO, the ideal scenario would be Campbell bringing in Rocco and convincing Grunk to stay and compete. He’d still have two years to prove himself if he's not the starter in 26. I just don’t know if Grunk would be willing to do that. At this point, I trust Campbell and his staff to field the best roster they can.

Yes, I also believe Campbell bringing in the ISU QB, or even a top QB from the portal to start in 2026, along with Grunk staying is the ideal scenerio. But I do feel there's a very high probability that Campbell will bring in another experienced QB. Every player has their own priorities so it seems to come down to how well Grunk likes PSU, the core of his teammates that stay, and if he realizes that the grass is not always greener somewhere else.

I don't see Pribula coming back to PSU, but who knows. I don't believe Beau has a prior relationship with Campbell, but then again I believe both of Beau's parents are PSU grads. Maybe Beau to VT, but I've no idea what the QB situation for 2026 is at VT.....

Whomever might follow Franklin will get screwed up like Allar did, like Hackenberg did. Franklin gets them to overthink. I'm looking forward to our post-Franklin development of QBs and WRs.

I agree. Did you hear some of that leaked audio of Allar saying Franklin stressed him out? Also, listening to Tengwall, he said how insane Franklin made practices compared to other schools. Total micro-manager and I personally despise those types.

Didn't hear the audio but read that he said something of that sort. You could see it though. Remember how gunslinger and unafraid Allar was when we played WVU his first year starting? Then Franklin told him to go the checkdown.

And that whole "jump ball" thing. IMHO, run schemes and make sharp cuts that get players open, with the QB hitting them out of the cut. Yes, winning jump balls is a necessity, but it shouldn't be a tactic.
I think Trace had great WRs and Trace had a weird ability to know when his WR had the advantage over the cover regardless of how close he was. I don’t think Allar/WR corp had that, or at least, CJF didn’t trust it. I suspect it was a WR problem as it is quite clear that staff didn’t trust the WRs in 2024 or in 2025. I recall someone asking Smith why he was having some success throwing deeper balls and he paused, as if to measure his comments, then said “because we call the plays.” To me, that meant the team under CJF did not. So the question is “why” when CJF had a history of allowing these plays with previous teams.

Aside from that, I am always suprised teams don’t throw deep when it is 3rd and 18 or whatever. I mean, an INT is better than a punt as most kids can throw 50 yards or more today.

No doubt. It seemed that Franklin mostly played not to lose. He didn't have that "cutthroat" mentality that allowed realistic risk taking. Virginia Tech fans will understand in time.

Also, on a 3rd and 18, a PI gets you a first down. Although often the defense is playing deep on 3rd and 18 while in full rush the passer mode. This usually limits time for the downfield reads and sometimes a run up the middle will pop because of the pass rush leaving a gap and the LBs dropping deep into coverage.

Sooners and Tide with so-so offenses but both have DLs that are big and can bring pressure. Their LBs are also plugging the holes. Both areas were PSU's 2025 weaknesses.

Really lays out the current depth chart with opt outs and transfers considered. https://247sports.com/college/penn-...re-whos-gone-for-bowl-game-266878711/#2768996
- If Williams is really the 4th team OT he'll likely follow Birchmeier into the transfer portal. Hasn't he been practing inside during the season?
- White was moved to DT a couple months ago.
- Not sure why they have only Wallace and Smith fighting for the 2nd team RB spot behind Katron when no RB other than Allen and Singleton have gotten a carry in recent memory. So it would seem Martin should have been OR'd as well. Maybe Hayes as well.

Yes, some depth questions that I'm not 100% sure are correct on their depth chart but they do have practice access so maybe? I'm sure that there is a full re-evaluation ongoing with the new staff anyway.

I wonder if they do have practice access. I haven't seen any of the reporters that follow PSU football report on practice.

Under Franklin it's my understanding that the media had access to practice on Wednesdays of game weeks, before (I believe?) Franklin's approximately 10 minutes media scrum where he answered questions for around 10 minutes. But so far I haven't heard anything at all about the bowl game practices. Does anyone know if there has been media access to practices?

I'm assuming that Campbell will hold a bowl game week PC on Monday, but has that been confirmed?

And will Campbell (and/or Terry Smith, but it seems like Campbell has totally taken over team activities) also have a short media scrum or PC before the team leaves for NYC?

I don't see any announcements on the gopsusports.com site indicating the teams practice schedule and/or game week media coverage.

I don't know specifically about bowl practice access. 247 may have simply extrapolated from their Rutgers week depth chart and made adjustments for departures. It's entirely possible that in that gap of time, some players have made some movement up or down the depth chart. And really, we don't publish a depth chart so this is just observers with slightly more access than many of us taking their best stab at it.
