2025/26 Transfer Portal & Roster Changes Thread

I believe that most of the existing roster are relieved and have a higher level of confidence now that competent leadership has moved in. The UCLA game indicated to me that locker room issues, not skill or schemes, were 70% of the problem.

I don't know specifically about bowl practice access. 247 may have simply extrapolated from their Rutgers week depth chart and made adjustments for departures. It's entirely possible that in that gap of time, some players have made some movement up or down the depth chart. And really, we don't publish a depth chart so this is just observers with slightly more access than many of us taking their best stab at it.
Yep, but the question is still has any of the PSU football media even had any access to practices since the end of the regular season. Hopefully they get some access this coming week and we also get to see Campbell PC's as well.

I'm not so sure that its a WR problem. We've had WRs that portaled out and were successful at another program. We've also had some portal in and weren't as successful as billed. Could it have been a QB problem or a head coach problem? Grunk seemed to do pretty well with the current receivers.

I think it was coaching. Franklin, OC, Qb, Wr, all of them. We are getting a do over. It may not be an instant increase in production but perhaps gradually over the next few years. The guys weren't open, qb always was going to a check down and all risk was minimized. The goal was zero turnovers not touchdowns for the most part.

The one that portaled out that had success is Harrison Wallace. He had a decent season for PSU as a relatively young guy in 2024, other than the missed catch vs Uh-high-ya that he somehow turned into an INT that pretty much turned the tide from PSU and resulted in the loss. Sure he did well at Ol Miss as he further matured and he would have done well at PSU had he stayed. Who knows why he left. The criticism he got due to the OSU performance(?), Big Game James ran him out believing he could get a better player in the portal(?), or just wanted a change.

Omari Evans went to Washington where he had 17 catches for 254 yds, a significant decline for the 21 catches for 415 yds he had in 2024 at PSU. Looks like the PSU passing offense was better for him than the Washington offense.

I also dont believe Franklin had any real game breaker WR's transfer in. Other than Pena who had a big season in the pass happy Syracuse offense playing against lesser competition there weren't really and WR's that realistically could have been expected to be game breakers at PSU. Ross had speed but didn't seem to be physical enough to make big plays with any regularity in the B10. Hudson also didn't seem to have the speed to be a game breaker and to me was the biggest disappointment of the three. But none of the 3 incoming transfer WR's for 2025 were even in the top 25 rated WR's that were in the portal. Pena at 26, Ross ant 30 and Hudson at 48. Those ratings are of WR's in the transfer portal, not in college football. Ohio St. has the #1 WR in college football and another in the top 10. How could anyone expect PSU to beat Ohio state when so much of today's college football is having a top passing game?

Franklin was on a mission to be the #1 team which logically should requires top 10 type players at most positions. How can we expect low level talent to come in and be the game breakers that it takes to beat top 10 teams? I don't believe we can. Franklin's efforts in the transfer portal were a joke in comparison to teams that really go all out to win. Look at the players that Oregon brought in for the 2025 season and where they are rated within their position groups.

You can see their numerical rating such as .98 for the OT World who was the #1 OT in the portal but you have to click on each player to see where they rated overall at at their position, such as World being the #1 OT.

Oregon is in the playoff and PSU is in NY.

Supposedly one of the friction points with Franklin was that he literally didn't want to go get a true #1 WR. The guy that I heard that we had the package to get but Franklin wouldn't do it was Concepcion from NC State that went to A&M and led them with 61 rec, 919 yds, 9 TDs receiving and also added 10 carries for 75 yds and a TD and was the SEC leading punt returner with 456 yds and 2 Tds
