2025/26 Transfer Portal & Roster Changes Thread

Several outlets put in forecasts that Kemon Spell will recommit to PSU. I am also reading that several kids in the portal are getting upset because they aren't getting the offers, NIL, they were told to expect and when they go back to their old team they are being informed that their position is no longer available.

No NIL means no NFL. They need to reassess the long term and give Harvard, Yale, or Princeton a call. Play Ivy League BCS ball, get the sheepskin, and get a corporate job doing nothing for $200k.

Here's my prediction for next year's portal,,, the number of players entering the portal will be down about 20-25% for this year?

Hopefully the players are learning some lessons from year's debacle concerning things like:
1 - green grass and the other side of the fence
2 - don't trust some "agent" who is talking to you about transferring and how much money you will get
3 - going through the recruitment process is stressful, and once was enough.

I would hope so but players are equally as likely not to learn a thing. They all think this doesn't happen to them. Just like so many in the past always used to think that they could enter the draft early only to not be drafted. That seems to be down this year though with NIL as a viable option to stay in school.

It's similar to quitting a job thinking a better one is out there. If I'm a player, particularly one who is unsure of the demand for my services, I'd want my agent (an agent is actually helpful here) to put out feelers and to help close a deal.
An online auction/reverse auction site could help with better market knowledge, but an agent/lawyer is still good to have.
And an Ivy League alternative is still a great option because that limelight in big stadiums is fleeting. Mendoza getting his Business degree from Cal before moving on to Indiana was brilliant, BTW.

I would never thought an auction but that is an interesting idea. Like other auctions a reserve could be set.
However, it is very creepy to me to be auctioning a person's commitment to play for a team.

The person is auctioning his/her services and sets the requirements.

Season highlights for the ISU incoming RB Hanson. Big, solid runner that hits the hole well and finishes his runs, but I really don't see him as a #1 RB at PSU, or beating out Martin and/or Peoples either. Doesn't seem very shifty or really explosive. Catches the ball well and picks the hole in the line well. But ISU's schedule/competition was pretty weak compared to what PSU faces in the B10.

Thanks for posting this. He is not anything special IMO

Carson Hansen is no slouch. ISU has a 4.47s forty yard dash time for him. He’s about 6’1” and 220 (good RB size) and has above average vision and power. Last year he was 2nd team all-big 12. He’s not an elite RB, but he has some NFL measurables and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a later NFL draft pick or free agent signing in 2027 if he continues developing the way he has since he arrived at ISU.

100yd+ games vs. TCU & BYU. Could be others. Someone noted on a previous thread his similarities to Zach Zwinak. He'll be a good fit versus those "vaunted" Big10 defenses. He'll be one of the old vets that coaches are now looking for to fill their rosters.

Nearly 1100 total yards in 2025 and 2nd team All Conference. That's a take every day and twice on Sunday. Perhaps people are discounting him because he is a white RB like they used to at one time discount a black QB. Is he Barry Sanders or even Kaytron? Probably not. But he seems to be a great addition to the room and the most proven of the backs.

One thing I noticed in the NC game was how the Indy RBs hit the hole fast and hard. Not much dancing around.

The same thing applied to Mendoza. He made quick decisions. IMO that was Allar's biggest problem. He spent a lot of time reading his wristband and also when going through his progressions. I don't know if he simply didn't have the "IT" factor or if the problem was that he was over coached. Either way he didn't play with enough confidence in spite of having great size and arm strength.

Isn't that really what separates average and great QB's, quick decision making? I agree that Allar really never seemed confident in assessing a defense before the snap and then quickly looking 1 or 2 places on the field based on the alignment of the defense and decisively letting the ball go. Obviously he has an NFL arm which should have given him an advantage over many college quarterbacks, but when a game was on the line he too many times made mistakes that prevented PSU from finishing games to put them in the win column.

Mendoza on the other hand not only executes plays quickly but is as accurate a thrower as I can remember seeing in college football. He looks like a pretty average player physically but really is a great athlete as well enabling him to break tackles and make plays like he did on that 4th down in the 4th quarter. I'd guess that if PSU had Mendoza as the starting QB in 2024 and 2025 that PSU would have at least one additional championship trophy.

Another thing from this is that bringing in a young and highly rated QB and starting him as a freshman or redshirt freshman is not the optimum way to win games. QB's with experience and maturity win more games if they progress as many do. Allar didn't really progress like some so the investment in playing him as a freshman and starting him as a soph really didn't pan out for PSU.
