2027 Recruiting Class Thread

Well with these conflicting projections someone is off.

I haven't looked at the 247 page to see, but I would bet those are at least 2-3 months old, if not more.

Wiltfong just made his 2-4 days ago. He's a national guy who tends to wait until he gets his interview info before making his. 60% usually means it's not an imminent verbal, but likely over the next month.

Without paying for info, I do know this is the QB from the '27 class who we SEEMED to have the most interest in.

I've seen some recent speculation that we may like Croucher more. I don't know if that is Bourke trending away and us sending more love to Croucher or if we truly like him more.

He didn't get his offer until June 15 when he camped here. That is part of the equation. Bourque has been on the radar for 2 years. Oregon, Ole Miss part of his fall visit scheduled (along with us).

Croucher is rated just about as high as Borque. I do think Wiltfong (sp?) is in the know and Michigan now has the inside track to get him.

Separate point on future QBs. What do we do if Smolik beats out Grunk and stays ahead of him all season? Would we try to make a run in the portal to get Pribula back for '26? Or go after another portal QB? I don't think we can take the risk of either hoping Grunk dramatically improves this off season to possibly win the job or just handing it to Smolik for '26 (assuming Gronk is not as good or just transfers). I understand Smolik may be our starter in '26 and perform well but I think we would need to have a good competition and if it wouldn't be Grunk to compete against him then who? If we would lure Pribula back we would have to essentially promise him the '26 job. Which depending on how he does this year could be a great move. If we our serious about a portal QB then whomever it is we may need to promise them the gig almost. Basically a bridge until Huhn for '27. We would need to make a QB portal acquisition by December so it seems to me Grunk would need to show he's got what it takes by then or we need to move on to other options.

I would like to see this happen. He’s a very talented three sport athlete and throws a 90+ mile per hour fastball. By all reports, he’s had a great summer, and his star is shining. He is originally from the same high school as Luke Reynolds. It’s possible he may have passed Bourqe on the target list. Picked up an offer from UCLA yesterday.

Valid point that after this season, QB depth could be a concern.
1) Smolik is a class ahead of Grunk so Grunk could still stick around if beat out.
2) Kritza is very raw and IMO would not be ready to be the backup if Grunk or Smolik portalled.
3) Huhn would be a true freshman next year. It would be best if he redshirts.

I suppose if this year's 3rd string QB portals, we may search the portal for a more mature QB for depth purposes. But would this make this year's 2nd string QB also portal?

We are in a great position this year at QB. Next year looks pretty iffy to me. Maybe we hope Smolik is really strong and Grunk is willing to wait his turn?

We do seem to find 3 star QBs that blow up. Fields, Allar, maybe Croucher?

If Smolik is #2 this year and #1 in 26, he is the better of the two. I don't forsee Pribula being guaranteed the starting job to return to PSU. That could cause ripple affects for recruiting.

Even though we saw Mack return, I just can't foresee a scenario where Beau returns.

1. He's a RS JR right now
2. He left to start this year
3. If he has a great year at Mizzou, he isn't coming back
4. If he has a poor year, we wouldn't want him back.

I don't foresee a 2026 with Smolik and Grunk on our roster together, but I do believe that our coaching staff is going to try to keep both in competition until that window has passed. I wouldn't be shocked if they rotate games as the 2nd QB. I believe there is only one window for the portal next off season. The goal for our staff is to keep them here until it passes.

QB is one of the easiest positions to sure up with a transfer. It kicked off with Russell Wilson's transfer from NC State to Wisconsin. National champion OSU picked up Will Howard in the transfer portal last year. This year they have Sayin who transferred from Alabama. Michigan flipped Underwood and UCLA picked up Iamaleava. The only problem is that getting a top QB is expensive.

QB is also one of the most difficult positions to retain depth. Tommy Stevens transferred to Mississippi State. Will Levis transferred to Kentucky. Pribula transferred to Missouri. Teams play several linemen, LBs, DBs, WRs, etc but they only play one QB. Kids want to play so if history is any indicator I'd expect the loser of Grunk or Smolnik to be Allar's backup to start looking around.

Penn State football seeks recruitment redemption with class of 2027

Penn State football is an early favorite to land an out of state offensive lineman. Lucas Rhoa is ranked 267th nationally and 26th among interior offensive linemen. The Nittany Lions have a 44.2 percent chance of landing Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native. USC has a 13.7 percent projection to land Rhoa, the second most likely of his top four schools.

Penn State also has a good chance with another out of state recruit. Wide receiver Myles McAfee is the No. 12 receiver in the country from the class of 2027. Ohio State, Oregon, and Maryland also have a shot, but right now the Nittany Lions leads with a 42.5 percent chance. McAfee said that the Terrapins are still up there, though, given they're his home state team.

If he were to commit to Penn State, he'd complete its quartet of current top targets with wide receiver Khalil Taylor, offensive tackle Layton Von Brandt, and running back Kemon Spell.

I am guessing 2026 $ was constricted by huge $ to keep veterans. $16 of 22 million plus NIL frees $ for 2027.

I’d love it if it happens, but I don’t think they’re getting any kind of sanctions. I mean, if they didn’t get any for the above link, then they’re not gonna get any for cheating at football
I doubt he decommits. By the time Michigan would get any sanctions this kid will be 40. It's a joke how slow it is moving. I hope we can get Crutcher. With the news about Grunk not looking so good I am now worried about that position. Huhn better be the real deal.
