I read that Lynn will be a tough pull with his buyout being pretty big. I'm not sure that is prohibitive for us though. So, if Lynn doesn't work out, then Poindexter?
The buyout is substantial and could be in the range of $5 to $6 million. Word is that he is committed to leaving and wants to come to Penn State and been trying to negotiate that number lower, but USC has been pretty firm. Lynn is also getting interest from several other schools. USC knows that they are going to have to replace Lynn, so it is in their best interest as well to move this thing along. They are rumored to be interested in the UT defensive coordinator that was let go.I read that Lynn will be a tough pull with his buyout being pretty big. Well, for one, Lynn has done it at more than one place and done it well enough that this is the 2nd time teams are trying to make a move on him. That's not to say Poindexter isn't great at what he brings and may be an excellent coordinator at some point, but he doesn't have a track record as a coordinator yet. I think he will at some point.Like the Terry v. New Coach argument, what does Lynn bring to the table that Poindexter doesn't? A serious question. Just looking for a list of strengths and weaknesses in schemes, recruiting, adjustments, etc. It's difficult for me to believe that years at being a position coach doesn't allow for the absorption of information and having one's own ideas about how to run things.
USC defenses haven't been very good.I read that Lynn will be a tough pull with his buyout being pretty big. I'm not sure that is prohibitive for us though.
They are over 10 pts per game better than before Lynn took over their defense. He also had the #14 ranked scoring defense at UCLA in 2023 before taking on the USC rehabilitation project. It seems like he is very well respected and in demand in coaching circles.USC defenses haven't been very good.

It was said that he ran that defense because Iowa St couldn't recruit the quick twitch DEs. So it seems he modified his D to the talent on hand. PSU doesn't have the same issues.Tengwall had a video on the ISU DC who just decided to retire. He invented or ran a 3-3-5 defense that required a big, but not particularly agile DL. The LBs and DBs were supposedly the quick guys who filled, chased, and blitzed. He wasn't sure if it would succeed in the Big10. My personal preference is the 4-2 or 4-3 where guys like Abdul Carter and Chop Robinson can do their thing.
His first year was pretty rough, 24, but this year was respectable. USC really is trying to keep him.USC defenses haven't been very good.
Lynn's buyout is $4 million.
They need an alum to pick up the bill. You willing? His first year was pretty rough, 24, but this year was respectable. USC really is trying to keep him.

You must hang out with Sherone MoorePfft, that's a cheap night of hookers.
If that happens that means that PSU is most likely in a good spot. The elite teams switch coordinators regularly. They need an alum to pick up the bill. You willing?
On a serious note, he may be lost to a HC position in a year or two.
I recall Lynn making a statement before last year's game against Penn State that he hadn't really been in touch with the program (maybe because of his career path or Franklin?). If not already done, CMC and Kraft must reach out to all letterman. Do national champion QBs Blackledge and Shaffer show for any events? If that happens that means that PSU is most likely in a good spot. The elite teams switch coordinators regularly.
I do remember that comment from Lynn, and honestly it says more about how fractured things have felt than anything personal. When former players feel disconnected, that’s a problem, regardless of who’s coaching.I recall Lynn making a statement before last year's game against Penn State that he hadn't really been in touch with the program (maybe because of his career path or Franklin?).
