LMAOROFL Joe went to BROWN. I was at his 1st game as coach when Beaver sat 40,000. Most people that loved Joe never went to PSU. PSU changed my life, not done silly test of loyalty. To add to the comment that Kraft, CMC, and even Neeli should make a concerted effort to reconnect with the lettermen. Franklin, Barbour, and others who ran things were not alumni. East Stroudsburg, Kutztown, Green Bay, Idaho State, Maryland, etc., Franklin didn't know to understand and/or refused to recognize Penn State's past. It's most likely not his fault. But there is a long line of lettermen out there. Roosevelt Grier (age 93), Lydell Mitchell, Mike Reid, Matt Millen ...give them all a call, hold a reunion, and start rebuilding the legacy.
I agree. Mark Stoops would be a good hire.Looks like the talks are still going on with Lynn. I will throw a name out there, what about Mark Stoops? It doesn’t look like he’s going to get a shot at any of the big high profile HC openings. He was a very good defensive coordinator. USC may end up taking a look at him.
LMAOROFL??? It has nothing to do with you and your experience.LMAOROFL Joe went to BROWN. I was at his 1st game as coach when Beaver sat 40,000. Most people that loved Joe never went to PSU. PSU changed my life, not done silly test of loyalty.

Football letterman should feel connected and welcomed. Such a brotherhood holds the program together, rather than it being a group of mercenaries who feel no connection after they leave. Even Franklin was a mercenary. It has little to do with Joe, Brown, and nothing to do with alumni and non-alumni.
What's the "dead dog" of which you speak? The question is whether former players are detached from the program based on what has gone on with the program over the past 13 years.I would have fired Franklin the first time he let it be known he was looking for and getting better offers.
Lettermen are as connected as they want to be. Not a Franklin fan but there have always been plenty of alum players on the sidelines.
Penn State is so much more than football.
Bloated staffs after Joe allowed Franklin to hire a lot of ex players.
Quit kicking a dead dog. We have s better coach
Be happy
Merry Christmas

More than 200 lettermen petition PSU to return Joe Paterno statue
Penn State was petitioned by more than 200 of the school's football lettermen to return the Joe Paterno statue, which was removed in 2012 in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky case.abc7ny.com
And an interesting comment about PSU being "so much more than football". Without football, it may have become another IUP. Who knows? The topic would command its own thread.
What's your point? It doesn't have anything to do with my recommending that Kraft and CMC work to bring the many estranged lettermen back. Reading is fundamental.Franklin. He is gone.
It took Franklin 11 years to get there. The bar should not be semis right now. Just an upward trajectory to start. We have no idea if HCMC is going to do better than Franklin. The semis is a very high bar.
I don't know. I think that they are likely a top 10 team. But Texas Tech has played a schedule that is only ranked above a handful of other power 4 schools (mostly from the ACC). https://powerrankingsguru.com/college-football/strength-of-schedule.phpFor this first year (2026), the art of picking up the best value in the portal to shore up critical positions is job1. LB (2), DL (2), OL (2), QB (starter or backup), WR (2). Proven performers with WR being a cut above.
Indiana's been the quick fix model, but, man, that Texas Tech defense is relentless.
Jury still out on TT defense as far as being elite. They are excellent and I think their game with Oregon will be close. I still believe Oregon wins a close game. For this first year (2026), the art of picking up the best value in the portal to shore up critical positions is job1. It just can't be as hard as the past PSU staff has made it look to find a 1 or 2 quality WR's in the transfer portal. I was watching some suck bowl game, can't even remember who the teams were, but a couple WR's were making really nice catches after getting open. Some of the catches were on plays where there was good coverage. To me, WR is the position that has the most opportunity for a significant upgrade going into next season. For this first year (2026), the art of picking up the best value in the portal to shore up critical positions is job1. Humbly, JF making the semis is a fluke requiring the magical seedings that resulted in SMU and Boise St. Then, against ND, PSU built a big lead and Big Game James puckered up and gave it away in another 2nd half collapseIt took Franklin 11 years to get there. Last year was a gift wrapped national championship appearance that Franklin couldn't handle. We won't see a path that generous ever again.Humbly, JF making the semis is a fluke requiring the magical seedings that resulted in SMU and Boise St. Then, against ND, PSU built a big league and Big Game James puckered up and gave it away in another 2nd half collapse
