Florida International University at #2 Penn State (12:00 EDT, BTN)

Halftime thoughts. Well I don't think the outcome is in doubt but I wouldn't have wanted to give the 42 points right about now. Not exactly a dominating performance.

Drew has made a few nice throws but missed several others and has looked erratic at times.

On the 4th down zone read earlier in the 2nd quarter, Drew might well have scored if he kept the ball as the whole D was flowing toward Kaytron.

So we go into the 2nd half of the 2nd game of the season with our two DT's tied for the team lead in interceptions. You don't see that very often.

Credit to FIU, they've taken some shots and are playing to win but I'd be amazed if they score as many as 10 points in the 2nd half. I think we'll pull away.
 
Defense held them to no points.

Can't have a guy running into tacklers when there are gigantic open spaces ro run.
 
Don't mind a miss from 53, but a block? Ouch. We're playing badly in all phases. But give FIU credit, they have come to play and not just collect a paycheck.

Ha! Dr. Pepper has a Fansville commercial where the QB is on the draft slide. Drew better watch it, or that will be him!
 
Bizarre O play-calling in the first half and the offense is playing completely uninspired. Allar's longest completion was on the last drive for 14 yards. LIU has more passing yards and two completions over 20 yards. Allar is playing PSU out of a playoff bye and slipping him into the draft second round or later. Can't see this team winning in Columbus and the Ducks are much better than FIU.
 
I remember the old days when a 12th ranked PSU would play an inferior opponent like Wake Forrest and we'd be leading 35-0 at half. Now we're #2 and struggling against an FCS team that only won 4 games last year.
 
They should still get the win. A win is a win, and the rankings don’t mean much right now anyway. That said, I won’t lie, I’m pretty disappointed with some of the sloppy play. They’ve got to stop underestimating opponents and playing down to the level of the competition. The sky is not falling tho.

Put the QB under center and run the I or split backfield. Counter traps with the ball carrier hitting the LOS in under a second.

One problem we have today is that the rosters are changing a lot between seasons for some teams. We don't know yet if FIU is all that bad. Coach Simmons thinks big things are possible, and he's won HBCU National Championships before (2019 and 2023). If a guy can coach, he can coach.

Well, that’s happened a few times it’s not like it happened all the time, even Joe had plenty of games where they were heavily favored and struggled in the first half.
 
Does Drew ever lead and hit receivers in stride? Passes are either to a stopped receiver, underthrown or overthrown. That TD pass to Hudson last week wasn't really that good in timing or accuracy.
