Florida International University at #2 Penn State (12:00 EDT, BTN)

This young man did not play Spring ball, just learning the position. Excited to see him and all the young DEs continue to progress. Right now it's upward trajectory that hopefully continues during the B1G season. PSU needs Fisher to stay healthy so the younger players can rotate in preserving everyone's freshness given the length of the season with its inevitable bumps/bruises that can slow players down.

I dont know anything about Oklahoma State but I have to believe they have more talent than FIU. Oregon beat Ok State 69-3. They had more than 600 yds if offense.

Oklahoma State had completely revamped its roster after a very bad season last year. This year may be Mike Gundy's last hurrah.

Still, the Cowboys were "only" 28-point underdogs...but lost by 66. By any measure, Oregon overachieved already high expectations. We'll have our work cut out for us on September 27.

The Sporting News ranked FIU 121st and Ok State 70th.

I realize you can't put too much into the early rankings but my prediction for PSU after 2 weeks has fallen from 11-1 to 10-2.

SI dropped us to 7th behind OSU, OR, and USC.

Dante Moore's QBR was 86 compared to Allar at 57.

Really liked Chaz Coleman, King Mack, and Zakee Wheatley today.
Yes, it’s always better watching a game live. And my impression with the Defense is very positive. The DLine is really good. Ford seems to be getting back where he was moving laterally very well and making run stops. They tended to run away from Zurant, but I was impressed with the young Dtackels. They are strong and quick. Fisher was back and played steady, DDS will be hard to handle for anyone we play. Harvey played better and Coleman is going to be real good. The Linebackers played well. Campbell is very good and Rojos is playing better this year, not over running plays and tackling better. Not as much rotation, the younger backers did not get in much till the very end. The secondary is lightning fast and can tackle. There were some coverage mix ups early but the athleticism at both safety and corner is impressive. They also like to hit.

The three tune up games has/will be good for the defense.

The offense is another story, but the D should at least keep us in most games.

I remain concerned about Drew at this point. "57" passer rating against FIU is terrible.
He must play better or they could have 3 plus losses and miss the playoffs. The Defense could be pretty good, but as of now the offense is questionable. Drew had a terrible first half and they struggled running the ball as well. It looked like FIU was playing a lot of two and three deep zone coverage, and Drew was missing the short and intermediate routes. I think the receivers are better overall, but not sure if they have anyone who can take the top off the defense. There were some drops, but Drew was not on target. The OLine still has a ways to go, 2 of 4 on first down runs and only 3 of 12 on 3rd down conversions.

Ross took the top off on his TD catch but Drew was a little late releasing it and underthrew it causing him to slow down requiring the contested catch.

Let's face it, you'd expect a lot more from Drew as a 5-star talent in his 3rd year as a starter against a 2nd-level team like FIU. Is he ever going to live up to the early hype? We'll find out on September 27.

And then there's the running game and Nick in particular. He hits holes when they materialize but doesn't make guys miss.

And the OL? It was billed as one of the top in the country. If you can't play like that against the likes of FIU, how are you going to do it when you get into the serious part of the schedule?

Now comes Villanova and the last I checked, the oddsmakers haven't even put up a point spread. I mean, this is like playing a top-flight high school team.

So much is now riding on the Oregon game. Win that and we're on track. Lose it and...well I don't even want to go there...

I blame Lando, he jinxed Drew.

Villanova was a 10 win team last year. I know it's a lower division but I suspect that they may be at least at the level of the last 2 teams that we played.
