Franklin Fired -It’s over...

In watching the OSU-UM game, it's become very clear to me that Franklin's not understanding the importance of having dominant linebackers does not make him qualified to be a DI head coach. An assistant at Maryland is maybe his ceiling as it pertains to competency.

With Franklin's recruitment of QBs with disparate styles like McSorley, Clifford, Allar, Gronkemeyer, Pribula, Huhn along with OCs with disparate styles like Donovan, Morehead, Yurcich, Ciorrocca, Kotelnicki, it indicates that he isn't a cerebral, systems thinking guy. He just hires coaches and recruits players based on their individual resumes. And his not understanding the level of talent needed for the LB position tells me he was not someone who could beat better teams, much less win national championships. Some players were good to great, but the team itself had too many talent and playcalling holes. Call it serious schematic dysfunction. He was a personality and not a football guru.
Franklin's final HC grade: C+ to B-

Good points. People forget his recruiting was pretty spotty.
Remember when we would have like 8 starting dbs and no dl?

I do.

Well, don’t look now but if Franklin was on the list of PSU potential candidates to be hired as our new HC, he’d be in the top three and have the best resume, by far.
It's like the NBA coaching carousel. Just hire the guy with the best resume but who has a ceiling.

It still amazes me, maybe pi$$es me off, as to how Franklin's team didn't have the skills, plan, and/or desire to beat Oregon. That game told me that PSU needs a coach who, as Michael Robinson would tell it, has football answers to football problems.

We wouldn't hire a guy who was known for not winning big games and just got fired.

That is why he is at VT and not Florida.

Big Game James would not be on our list

OK, who should we hire? Did you see the record of the BYU guy? Hartline (who hasn’t even been a HC)? Who has JMU beaten? So who is your pick?

I would take all of them over Big Game James.
Wel, except Hartline.

If we aspire for mediocrity then James was our guy.
I don't.

Look at Mark Richt's record at GA as an example of aspiring for mediocrity.

???. We had the game WON twice late in the game. Our lose from ahead DC lost the game

Well, and I wish I had a unicorn that ****’s rainbows. I can show you a million failed head coaches to your single UGA example. Look at Miami, Florida, Florida State and TX. “Different” doesn’t always mean “better”.

Doesn't always work out, but can't work out worse than Franklin in big games.

Franklin took the program backwards.

The team was favored, the hype, the nationally televised White Out, Franklin knew of his BGJ reputation, and the team (coaches and players) still blew it. The team was not built or prepared to win that game. That's when 97% (up from 84%) of the population realized that Franklin was more of a carnival barker than a football coach.

I don't sit and review plays over and over like our coaches are supposedlt doing in the 'film room'.

But it wss obvious to me early last season that Singleton shouldn't be playing, let alone starting against Oregon.

The fact that he was... after three awful games to that date, tells you all you need to know about BGj.

I'm shocked there are people who think we could do worse thab 0-3 against Oregon, UCLA and NW

You lost all credibility when you said he should not be playing. After Terry made Koltenicki go deep and stretch the field Singlteton had very good results and so did Allen. Allen should have had 75% of the reps but Singleton is the ALL TIME CHAMP IN PSU TDs AND RUSHING TD champ.

Franklin took the program backwards? Enough! IIRC, PSU had seven guys on the roster that could play on the OL. He won a B1G championship, had rose/fiest/cotton bowl wins and led us to the semi-finals last year. I understand that many don’t like CJF and that is just fine. But saying he took the program backwards is just flat out incorrect.
