Franklin Fired -It’s over...

I don't hate Franklin. I think he did some good things. My main problem with him is that there was always some other reason than him that we couldn't win at the highest levels. It was players. Or it was coordinators. Or it was the administration not being in alignment. He had everything he needed this year, and this was the result. He finally ran out of excuses.
100% percent... The excuses ran out.

The fact that Singleton even saw the field yesterday and the week before speaks volumes about Franklin.

And unlike most here, I'm not blaming this on the OC.

This offense had Franklin's fingerprints all over it.
I am not sure. I woulda hsd Knowles as temp HC to see just what his offense could really do if he was in charge. But with a new QB with near zero playing time the offense will be very limited.

Who is interim? Terry Smith? Can't be Kotelnicki. He should be fired right now as well for the stupidity that let Allar get hurt.
I actually believe that the OC, DC and new hires were more of an issue than Franklin. After all Franklin had many 10 + win seasons. —But it starts with Franklin …..he hired them. —I expect more fallout…they were more damaging

The next two weeks will be very telling with regard to how much input Franklin had on game days with the offense and defense. I think he had his fingerprints on too much of the offense for sure and not sure yet myself about what was going on with the defense. But if we see a different offense, then we can absolutely know that the problem was all James.

Yep. The players genuinely liked him. Look for many portals after the season….and recruiting flips.
It all depends on who they get to replace him. I don’t think it will be Smith long-term but if it is, most of the kids will stay. If it’s someone like Cignetti , I think most of them will stay as well.

It’s possible a “particular “ hire will mitigate the damage ( Smith is well liked, and that will likely limit immediate exits). —If I’m Cignetti, I’m NEVER leaving Indiana. He’s achieved greatly, and The expectations are waaaay less, and he is already a HOF coach for their program. Penn State will only give him ulcers. The reality is that Franklin won 10+ games about half the time, and got canned ( rightly, although I think other assistants were more of the problem). If I’m Cignetti, I’m wearing garlic and silver bullets if Penn State comes to call. He’s got the perfect gig.

I really liked Coach Franklin and we bought in to the rebuilding of the program 12 years ago. We even got season tickets. But after watching the UCLA game last week I felt it just wasn’t working and was time to move on.

We were at the game yesterday and the crowd hung in there for a while but after the Allar injury things got bad. It’s a shame but this is the new era of college football and PSU is all in. With a $700 million renovation and players to be paid, something had to give and I do believe it was time.

Terry Smith interim head coach.
Two best coaches on the team seem to be Smith and Poindexter. Wonder if either will be considered for the permanent HC job. Seems like they will go outside, but I would be happy if Smith ends up on the new staff in his current position. Doubt Poindexter would stay as he's headed for a HC job before long. Smith on the other hand is a PSU letterman.

Barnes is also a letterman and I don't really blame him for this year's DL drop off. Each of DE and DT lost 3 very experienced and talented players with only 1 true returning starter at each position. You can't replace all those 6 "men" with "boys" and expect to not miss a beat. Barnes likely has a bright future in coaching, at PSU or elsewhere.

I agree with Zakee ( players know). —Got a scalp….we’ll find out.
Well its the players who gave up on/tuned out Franklin which resulted in losing the last few games to inferior teams. Most of them probably realized that he was an incompetent idiot who couldn’t even do basic clock management let alone beat teams with peer level players. He had these issues since day 1. He should’ve been fired like 5 yrs ago but better late than never.
