I'm gonna say it about this board

So much more enjoyable than the old board and also BWI. Old board became filled with so many hyperbolic personal attacks. BWI barely has any football or other sport in depth discussion. I guess you have to be a premium member to gain any insight?
This board so far has been excellent people sharing great stories, insights, and is so much more civil.
Thank you Ian!

Yeah I agree, there are some excellent football threads on this board. Insightful comments by many posters. Happy to be a member and thank you, Ian, for initiating this board.

I agree. We are pretty lucky to have had some of the best posters migrate to this site. There has been a good deal of football info shared and I'm already enjoying the takes from a number of you guys and the discussions. Even where we disagree, most seem to do it in a way that acknowledges the validity of the other's point of view. I mean, it's great to have competing views and still be civil about it.

It seems mainly because we seem to be sticking to PSU football.

No threads clogging up the top of the front page on women's lacross, politics, or turning the board into an obituary board..... EDIT: And superman movies, and.....

Hope it continues going forward.

And IANit has created a space for those other topics. I think that is important. People tend to bring them into the football board if they have no outlet on the board. IANit has created spaces for those discussions and people are having them, if they want. But they don't have to be bombarded with it on the football board.

I had a thread on the floods at Augusta that moved because it wasn’t football related.

Didn’t realize it was going to that restricted to football. Thought sports related was good enough.

Perhaps a board for ‘other sports’ can be created for sports talk but void of politics, obits, recipes and AKB questions.

I think that's a very good idea. Will add soon.

I have a few ideas I'm thinking about that I may try if I can figure out how to do them. I don't want to ban anyone or stop productive posters, but I feel some people have to chime in on everything even if people don't find their replies helpful. Sometimes OP is just doing it to troll. I'm thinking about requiring a post to reaction score ratio above a certain level (say at least ..50) to be an unrestricted poster. If your score lags you may see your ability to post throttled for some period of time. The idea is to "train" users to create content people respond to. Or to at least not dominate conversations.

As long as NJ is very stupid, I am ih.

That's an interesting idea and I definitely get where you're coming from with it.

One note of caution: the most common reaction by far is the "thumbs up" which tends to be more an expression of a person's agreement with the sentiments expressed in the post rather than an indicator of the post's overall quality of content or thought.

I think an alternative approach would be an occasional spot check on posters you have observed to be problematic and if, say, a certain percentage of their last 10-20 posts are either empty or abusive in content, then impose restrictions or suspensions...possibly after a warning.

Then again, it's easy for me to come up with ideas but I'm not the one who would be implementing them. Therefore, obviously your own judgment as owner and administrator should prevail.

I’ve said this elsewhere but I favor this site/old site for game day discussion over On3. This includes the over-reactions (self included). That’s all part of the fun. Keep it up.

We've all sworn off over-reactions this season. That's on the positive and negative side. We are taking Joe's “You're never as good as you think you are when you win; and you're never as bad as you feel when you lose.” to heart this year. I promise.

Sounds complicated to do.

Maybe just limit people to a certain number per day. Say 15-20? Or 10–15 per thread. That should be plenty to get your point across and stop the relentless and childish back n forth that ruins so many threads. And people would make more judicious use if their content

If possible, allow unlimited posts on a game day thread. Or a couple few threads. Maybe even allow unlimited on Mondays for game post mortems. 🤷

Yes until we have to punt on our first possession against Nevada then all bets are off! "We are so overrated, guaranteed to lose 4 games!".....LOL!

Definitely unlimited for game day threads. Those posts are a lot of stream of consciousness venting or celebrating which is a beautiful thing! Like you are at the stadium going back and forth with a friend or person sitting next to you.
