Miami in, ND out

Sounds like the B1G made an offer to ND to have them join but only if it is all sports and not just football. ND very seriously looking at SEC as well.

If Notre Dame wanted to join a conference, they could pick up the phone and call any of the P-4 leagues, all of which would happily embrace them in a New York minute. In the end money talks, and Notre Dame's membership would mean big-time money for any conference.

But I think there's zero chance of that happening. As the only major independent left standing, Notre Dame has a very good deal of its own right now and it's hard to imagine them walking away from it.

There's no room. There are already two Indiana teams in the Big10. There is no cultural fit with the SEC, so I propose the Big12. With WVA and UC, it's a close enough fit. Hockey would join NCHC, perhaps the strongest hockey conference and lacrosse would join the Big East, like Denver.

I don’t disagree. The problem is they want to join for football but not other initiatives. Why football? Scheduling. And that becomes a big problem for conferences.

B1G would probably have to add another team to make the total number even. They could easily pick off Stanford or Clemson. Remember, the influence is now investment bankers. And I don’t think NDs religious clout is what it once was

The conferences will band together on this and starve them. It's what has to happen. Notre Dame is currently stealing from the conferences and keeping their full share. I say cut them off and there is very serious talk about this everywhere I read now. The conferences are tired of Notre Dame playing by a different set of rules and not sharing their cut of bowls/playoffs. Then ND had their little hissy fit this year, took their ball and went home. The conferences are done with that better than all of you attitude. You join a conference or you get shut out 100%. No scheduling with any power 4 teams. Done. Starve. A slow death.

I think this "serious talk" you refer to is confined to fans and commentators. In the sport's halls of power, in league offices, in network board rooms, there is no such talk and no prospect of the kind of boycott that you urge.

The ACC benefits tremendously from the deal it has with Notre Dame. (So does Notre Dame of course.) Meanwhile, Notre Dame's matchups with teams from other conferences generate national exposure, television ratings, ad revenue, and so forth.

As for the Irish hissy fit after getting screwed over, I think it was a good move on Notre Dame's part. We saw what happened when Florida State got screwed over a couple years ago and was relegated to a non-playoff bowl game. Half the starters on their demoralized team declined to play and Georgia flattened them by 60 points. The Noles have never really recovered. There's no reason for Notre Dame to go down that road and in the process put big television bucks in the pockets of ESPN, which played a major role in the last minute reordering of the CFP rankings.

Why would ND only want to join the B2G for football? What am I missing?

You're not missing a thing. It's not going to happen.

The Irish would be crazy to join a league whose politics (and refs) are ruled by two teams and which would likely go out of its way to make clear to Notre Dame that whatever its rich history and traditions, it should never presume to think itself the equal of the Two Sacred Cows.

I mean, that's what the league did to us and our example should serve as a cautionary tale for Notre Dame.

When conference commissioners are publicly calling ND's behavior egregious, then the talk is in the halls of power. Notre Dame is about to get completely shut out if they want to go it alone. https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-brett-yormark-calls-notre-dame-pete-bevacqua

I don’t think ND wants to join the Big Ten for only football. I’m convinced they will want to continue with their independence. As long as their brand remains strong, they can garner big tv contracts from NBC, and proceed with the scheduling agreement with ACC (weakest P4 conference), it will put them in the best position to win 10 games per year and usually make the playoffs. It’s the path of least resistance. But, it can backfire in certain years, like this year, when they lost to the only 2 teams on their schedule who were in the Sagarin top 30 for SOS.

The ACC is still their whore in others ports

I saw those statements by the Big-12 commissioner and actually agree with him that Notre Dame's AD went way overboard in blaming the ACC. I think the ACC's arrangement with Notre Dame has been a winner for both sides, but the idea that the league should favor the Irish, not a full football member, over Miami, which is a full member, is silly and naive...especially after league member and champ Florida State got the shaft just two years ago.

In fact, I think the Florida State snub in 2023 was a factor helping Miami this year. The committee did not want to shut out the ACC again. The irony of course is that if Notre Dame were actually a full ACC member, they'd almost certainly be playoff-bound now. But this years screw job is a price the Irish are willing to pay for the advantages of remaining a football independent.

In any case, those quotes by the Big-12 commissioner are in no way related to a boycott of the Irish and don't come close to even implying the threat of such a thing. It's just not going to happen.

The conferences fully understand that ND doesn't have to play by the same rules and doesn't have to share their payout. It's stealing from the conferences enabled currently by the conferences scheduling them. That will at some point end. You don't keep helping someone take money out of your pocket that would be coming to you otherwise. The conferences will at some point, possibly soon, possibly spurred by ND's reaction this year, stop scheduling them such that ND is forced to play by the same rules and also share the payouts or starve. I prefer that this occurs yesterday. Starve them. Make them come to the negotiating table in a weak position. Force them to play by the same rules. And then welcome them into some conference where they will share the revenues or let them die with their arrogance.

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^
ND has been allowed to play by a different set of rules for far too long. Ironically, they are only able to do so with the assistance of teams in other conferences, and currently, by the ACC itself. ND being whining babies, refusing a bowl, and throwing a temper tantrum because of the decision will only make other teams and conferences less willing to accept their self-anointed status and financial position, ironically created by the conferences ND is bad mouthing. They are literally biting the hand that feeds them.
