New single Transfer Portal window

A single ten-day portal starting January 2nd is the speculation. The challenge is that January 2nd is before the end of the playoff. The quarterfinal is Jan 1, the semifinal is Jan 8/9, with the final being Jan 19. You can still run into a Beau Pribula problem.

On the other hand, this is far more than a James Franklin problem. It's a potential problem for any playoff team.

You have to wonder how the NCAA came up with those dates.

Then again, you also have to wonder how after the farce of the Michigan "penalty," the NCAA still has any authority to run the sport at all.

NCAA is caught between a rock and hard place. The portal window has to accommodate transfer students being able to enter college in the second semester, typciially in the second week of January. So the window has to be open soon enough, but that conflicts with the playoffs. They are trying to thread that needle.

Yep, and the obvious solution is to either shorten the season (i.e. number of weeks from start to finish by eliminating "bye" weeks or by cutting back to 11 regular season or by eliminating the conference championship games week), or start the season ever earlier. It's obvious that the championship game should be held on around the 10th of January at the latest so transfers can start directly afterwards, and then work backwards to make it work out. The incompetent NCAA "leadership" should just work backwards. Like they do on their taxes.....

It's also reasonable to just put the portal start date around the 14th and let the players transfering late enroll by a few days or a week. Most of them are taking courses on nuclear power safety systems anyway.....

And even with the date as it was last season there's plenty of tampering going on where players have offers and know their destination way before the official beginning of the transfer window.

Yes, Trump should fire them and create an organization to oversee the college football playoffs led by someone with a clue....

The season needs to start earlier, ditch the conference championships (which is a disadvantage to the teams playing them), and start the playoff 1 or 2 weeks after the regular season ends.

Most likely doing it so players can transfer for second semester and spring ball.

On the other hand, this is now set effect a very small number of kids...maybe 10-15 players out of all the kids throughout FBS
