Saban thought that players should be compensated but he hated the NIL pay for play system. I don't think he wants any part of that.
He hated it because he was no longer a shoe in to out cheat the other coaches....

LMAOROFLSaban didn't win anywhere he couldn't be one of the top Cheaters including MSU and the NFL.
Unless kraft is going to be all in on rule breaking I can't see Saban as a viable candidate....
All people remember is all those Saban championships and the fabled Crimson Tide football program. He hated it because he was no longer a shoe in to out cheat the other coaches....
? Why fire Franklin if you’re happy going 8-4 the next two years? Cignetti has proven his value as an elite coach. Two top 10 wins, one on the road against a real good team at a difficult venue. Kraft absolutely should contact him. However, I don’t think he will be interested, so Kraft better have some good backup plans.Indy is ecstatic that they made the playoffs last year and probably this year. They would still love Cignetti if he fell back to 8-4 the next two years.
PSU fans would be happy if we landed Cignetti and we finished 8-4 the next 2 years.
My point is that the pressure to win is much greater at PSU than at Indiana. I'm not sure if Cignetti wants that pressure.
Good point, if you are him at his age, why leave Indiana? He has everything he wants and needs to be successful. Maybe we should check out his coordinators. My point is that the pressure to win is much greater at PSU than at Indiana. I'm not sure if Cignetti wants that pressure.
Also if Franklin gets another job we only pay the difference between the two salaries. It may be true, but coaching buyouts aren't generally as onerous as they sound. They aren't lump sum deals and the coaches usually mitigate damages by taking another job.
He's building a juggernaut there so he may want to stay put. Since he is from Pittsburgh maybe that gives us a little opening. I don't think we outbid them, Cuban is funding their NIL and overall program.Good point, if you are him at his age, why leave Indiana? He has everything he wants and needs to be successful. I think it's going to be difficult to sustain his success at Indiana but fans would continue to support him with 8-4 seasons.Good point, if you are him at his age, why leave Indiana? He has everything he wants and needs to be successful. Maybe we should check out his coordinators.
He took Baylor from 1-11 to 13-2, and an overtime loss to Oklahoma in the B12 Championship in year 3. That with a backup QB. That's phenomenal considering what Baylor went through.Lots of people think it is Ruhle. And that may be. But this is the decision of Pat Kraft's life. PSU has had double digit wins the last three years. The new coach will have to win at least 9 games with a Sophomore QB (unless we get a transfer). If he picks Rhule, they both go down together. If it were me, I wouldn't pick Rhule because he hasn't earned it IMHO. He hasn't led a program to a great achievement.
You actually believe Kraft can afford a learn on the job coach? The fans won't tolerate it. Hartline has never been a HC, and it's his 1st year as an OC. He doesn't even have full OC duties. If Urban is a pipe dream, I am starting to lean towards Hartline. Great recruiter, excellent position coach, and has come up through a winning system. He may have to learn on the job a bit, but why not go with a young enthusiastic motivator rather than some older retread.
No way Penn State fans would be happy with 2 years of 8-4. Not buying it.Indy is ecstatic that they made the playoffs last year and probably this year. They would still love Cignetti if he fell back to 8-4 the next two years.

Do you think he can afford to wait for a coach like Cignetti who probably wouldn't be available until after the season (Jan 8th-15th)? Many existing recruits will be gone and other schools will have already gobbled up players who entered the portal on Jan 2nd?You actually believe Kraft can afford a learn on the job coach? Because of the timing issues, Terry Smith could be a good choice. He is a great recruiter. He has relationships with the recruits already. The recruits will know who the coach will be. He will be able to be aggressive in the portal the day it opens. He can immediately work on keeping the current players. He would return PSU to the hard nosed blue collared culture. He will hold players accountable l. At first I thought he would not be the right choice, but he might be the guy the team neeeds.Do you think he can afford to wait for a coach like Cignetti who probably wouldn't be available until after the season (Jan 8th-15th)? Sour grapes go away quick for the right price and situation, in my experience. And he is 64, if he wants to elevate himself, now is the time to do it.what's with the rumblings about Cignetti having sour grapes towards PSU because we disrespected his dad somehow?
He will be a head coach somewhere, probably next year considering all the jobs that will be open. He’s one of the best recruiters in the country. He has been part of the most successful big ten program for the last ten years. What was Dan Lanning before Oregon hired him as their head coach? You actually believe Kraft can afford a learn on the job coach? The fans won't tolerate it.
