Next coaching candidates

Why do you believe the sky is falling when pretty much nothing has been revealed about who the real candidates were and now are?

This change was always going to bomb the 2026 recruiting class. It’s about getting a coach better than Franklin and moving on from there.
I don't recall this poster saying much early or even throughout the season. But they appear to be very adamant now about repeating the most pessimistic view possible. That may tell us more about the poster than anything.

It would be a good choice. A football guy. Tough teams with decent QBs and offenses. His salary would be close to doubling. If he brings some of those big islanders with him to block and tackle, then that would be a big help. There's an established LDS community in State College, along with Cael. It's gets cold in Provo too but it has way more sunshine and majestic views. The hiking and trout fishing could be reasonable substitutes in PA. Let's go with Sitake and call it a day.
Also, an honest, authentic guy. That would be refreshing.

I don’t really watch BYU, but I’m wondering if he’s the type who keeps his foot on the neck. I listened to a BYU podcast and they said he’s grounded in trying to do right by people and be kind, and there was a game where he didn’t go for a field goal at the end of a game when it was the obvious choice.

Chicken little much?

Dude, get a grip. Franklin had to be fired. Terry slowed the bleeding. If PSU hires the right guy, they will be back much sooner than your doomsday scenario. INDIANIA (no joke), INDIANA hired the right guy and is undefeated and a multiple time playoff contender within 2 seasons. Indiana has zero football history and not even half of the resources that PSU has.

We are going to go heavy on the portal for 2026. But that 2026 schedule is extremely manageable for a new staff.

@ 5-7 Temple
5-7 Buffalo
@ 4-8 Maryland
@ #15 9-3 Michigan
@ 6-6 Northwestern
7-5 Minnesota
2-10 Purdue
5-7 Rutgers
#17 9-3 USC
4-8 Wisconsin
@ 8-4 Washington

No Ohio St. No Indiana. No Oregon. Not even Iowa or Illinois.

This schedule is tailor made for a new coach to ease into things.
When we won't have any P5 caliber players on the team, we may go 0-12. We lost almost the entire 26 class, lots of seniors leaving, and I would assume another 15-20 portal.

No, I’ll take the bet that after building his roster he beats OSU and UM more often than Franklin. And also gets to the semi’s faster than Franklin. Franklin wasn’t getting back to the semi’s by 2028 either.
That should always be the unforgivable sin, never beating OSU and top 10 teams. Kraft spent $6 million per year on coordinators for Franklin. He went all in and now Franklin is all out.

And the new hire will likely bring players with him plus we will hit the portal hard. We will have plenty of power 5 players, many are not currently on the roster. This is what happens when you bring in a new coach.

They only lost once, to TT, and I don't think that was the game. And PSU didn't go for the TD at the end of the game against Rutgers. Anyway, he coaches a tough but disciplined team, and that's highly needed.

Do you think Diaz will pull much in from the portal? I don't.
I don't think Diaz will be hired but whomever is will have likely $20M+ to work with in the portal. All of our big NIL players are headed to the draft and we will almost certainly go heavier on the NIL cash than in the past to smooth over the roster turnover. Plus, we have almost $0 going to new recruits like other teams have. We should have major portal additions no matter who gets the job.

My sense is that they're making a serious run at BYU's Sitake and if successful will dress him up as the second coming of Urban Meyer...or Knute Rockne.

Word is that BYU is trying to keep their coach on board and is willing to pay big-time to do it. This is how the game is played now.

Let's face it...things are getting desperate this late in the game after a bunch of guys on the A-List said no thanks to Kraft.

At this point we've hemorrhaged recruits and need to get a guy in place to start the process of cleaning up a very messy situation.

I'd be happy with Sitake. I'd be happy with Terry. I'd be more than willing to give just about anyone a chance.

I am with ya on that. I'm honestly a bit disappointed we didn't get Chesney at this point. I feel he would have been great here but now we'll never know.

Is there a chance Terry no longer wants the job? It will be clear he was the only choice left. That is not a great start to his tenure.

As most coaches do, Diaz would likely pull players from the portal in relation to the money PSU is willing to spend doing it. Last year the best WR's in the portal didn't come to PSU even though PSU was an obvious favorite to get to get to the playoffs and deep into the playoffs. And the 3 lower rated portal WR's were brought in proportional to the money PSU was willing to give them. As I remember none of the 3 portal WR's PSU got were in the top 20 rated WR's. From 247 composite, Ross #30, Hudson #48, Pena #26. That was abysmal given that PSU was projected as a sure top 10 team with a returning projected NFL QB. So I do believe if Diaz was given big portal money he can pull in the players from the portal to replace the losses from graduation, defections from the current roster, and losses in the 2026 class.

But he has to have the NIL $$ to do it. All the money tied up with Allar, Allen, Singleton, DDS and some others will be available, and it seems that there must be some big backers that plan to back whatever it takes to successfully replace Franklin. But we'll just have to see how this plays out.

LMAROFL The dark cloud behind every silver lining. IMHO Kraft's new choice v is still coaching. An announcement will come after their last game. LMAROFL about many coaches turning down PSU. For who, Slippery Rock?
