Notre Dame - Miami - talk about it here

What a weekend - #1 vs #3, #4 v. #9 and #6 vs. #10. The lower-ranked team is 2-0 so far.

Don't think I've ever seen a better slate of games for an opening weekend. (I'm not really counting last weekend's limited schedule as "opening.")

But wait, there's more: Grandpa Belichik's debut at North Carolina tomorrow night...against TCU.

As for tonight, it's a very interesting game indeed. The Irish have their work cut out for them playing on the road against a preseason top-10 team.

Can't wait to see how Georgia transfer Carson Beck fares against a very good Notre Dame secondary.

Weather could be a wild card. Good chance of rain in Miami this evening.

If it not raining now, it will be shortly. Saw a couple of ponchos in the stands.

I guess I have to root for Miami to prove ND is overrated again.

Miami blows the opportunity to cash in on an ND fumble. I think ND wins. I don't like either team so glad one of them gets an L to open the season.

On ND's first TD (so far), Cane's pass rushers were slow and winded trying to chase down a scrambling QB. I've never seen this with PSU's D.

I think Miami's in excellent shape at the half. Beck has the seasoning and experience at QB that Notre Dame lacks.

Granted, the Irish kid made a great play to get the TD pass off but other than that, he's been contained with 54 yards passing, almost all of it on dinky short routes.

QB play (or lack thereof) makes the difference in these top-10 matchups where both teams have so much talent.

Notre Dame's only down 7 but I can't see them coming back to win this one.

Miami ran up the middle for two yards, then threw two long incompletions. They failed to call the basic plays to keep their two drives alive. That was agregious playcalling.

Good back and forth game. ND took awhile to trust Carr. Lack of utilizing Love early was strange as far as game plans go. They might not have been in a hole if they opened up the downfield throws sooner (they seemed to be there, even if off broken/lazy coverage).

Miami is probably gonna go as far as Beck can take them. They don't look quite like they can just pure sling it like the Cam Ward-led bunch did, but that also have some defense and shouldn't have to. They moved the ball best when mixing up the run/pass. I'm going to assume this is still a good Irish defense until otherwise shown.

Schedule wise, Miami has the now interesting game vs USF in 2 weeks followed by the Florida Gators, a bye, and the now interesting Seminoles game coming up. After that, it's probably easy sledding depending on what SMU and Louisville brings this year. No Clemson is huge.

Ironically, the Gators play USF the week before Miami does. Then a road trip to LSU before the Miami game.

Notre Dame's game vs Boise is a lot less spectacular than it previously looked.

Gosh, I toddled off to bed with Miami leading by 14 in the second half...and now see the Irish made it very interesting in the 4th quarter.

So they end up with a 3-point less to a top-10 team on the road, which probably doesn't hurt them too badly in the rankings but they've got a lot less room for error now playoff-wise.

The big thing is that's #1. 3 loss ND will miss the playoff. 2 loss ND probably slips in, but is gonna be lower ranked.

Truthfully, I'd love to rematch them in the playoff.

Shots of Carr's mother are likely to get annoying as the season wears on, and I'm still mad at his grandfather over 2 seconds, but I thought young CJ played well late. Gave them a chance.
