Now less than two weeks from.opener. Any intel on depth chart?

Very informative PC today. I was late getting into it, Ludi with a bunch of the highlights. A couple more:

-2 green lights currently, Dixon and Coleman. Kemajou and Howard still yellow, but I think it's motivational tactics as both are mentioned as depth pieces.

-reading between the lines, sounds like Donkoh/Rucci will be the initial starting RG/RT. Cousins and Shanahan mentioned as part of 7 OL they view as starters. I expect heavy rotations.

-Tracy as the starting Nickel. Doesn't sound like a lot of crossover will be involved (many pegged Mack as a guy who could be at S or NB)

-Belgrave-Shorter was the turnover king through fall camp, in addition to the starter at the other S spot. My guess is Wheatley takes over the SS role more, ABS the deep FS.

-2 deep at WR
1. Hudson/ Howard
2. Pena/ Denmark
3. Ross/ Clifford

I think our first three games are so easy that they are going to be used, ostensibly, as an extension of camp, in that this will be an evaluation to see if what the staff "suspects" out of players actually translates into games. I also suspect a heavy emphasis on WR passes to see how Allar and the WR's gell in game situations.

Dixon and Coleman sound like they are future All-Americans. Howard must be really good at WR and excited to see him. Kemajou another true Freshman to watch.

We aren't going to learn a lot about Allar's improvement until Oregon.

Once again Franklin got some questions that really didn't result in much team information being revealed and just took up PC time.

A nice question on the DE's resulted in Franklin running down a 7 deep at the position including comments on the two true freshmen and their status to play this season.

Wouldn't another reporter naturally then ask about DT depth, where it seems like the information out before today's PC was even more sparse?......

Would be great for Franklin to just start his last preseason PC with a discussion of the depth chart at each position but since his policy is to not publish a team depth chart the only way to find out is for the reporters to ask about specific position battles.....

I think we know DT depth for the most part. The specific question I would want to know is how has Enai White transitioned to DT and is he in the top 5? He may be ahead of Blanding because of the injury which would be another question about how is Blanding's health.

Here's a question regarding Allar which is a tricky one to ask and may not get an answer.... "Has Drew done anything in the Spring and Summer to have him even more mentally ready to execute in the big/clutch moments of games? Some kind of question to that effect but my sense is Franklin would give a non answer. To be fair, there may not be a good answer for that.

Somebody actually did ask. From the spring answer he gave, they formed the question. Reporter framed it from "Allar had a lot to improve on", Franklin rebutted that the interpretation of his spring answer was a little off. The answer was coach speak. Primarily Allar's gotten faster, more athletic. More accurate. Also that until he does it in a game, it's just talk.

I know for sure we will see the Wildcat sets with Allen and Singleton. The rest, while I think are very likely and hopeful we use them, I'm very wait and see about.
Not sure about Allen in the Wildcat but maybe short yardage and goal line situations like Warren.

They ran it last year some. Twice I remember Allen not handling the snap clean.

I'm most curious about 6 and 7 OL sets. I don't necessarily mean Vega in motion versions either (although I know it's part of the AK playbook). Really like to see some smash mouth fb with this collection of players.

For some of Yurcich's faults, I would like to see the T Formation and the Diamond back field (mixing up RBs, TEs, WRs, and OLs back there to keep the defense guessing) reintroduced. That T Formation shifting to a 4 WR stack on one side and getting Warren 1v1 on the other had a lot of potential that we barely scratched the surface of.

Yeah I listened to that and that is not the way to word the question. You just get coach speak. Ask if he has done anything specifically to improve his mental fortitude or toughness when under pressure in big game moments. Franklin would probably say some smart aleck response.

Yes. With Ioane in motion, both guard and tackle blocking down, opposite guard and tackle pulling, Allen fakes a hand-off and plows off-tackle into ground zero. No delay, no vanilla up the middle, and nothing to the outside. That's why I get paid the big bucks 🤓

Just my take, but let's see how much Allar throws the next 3 weeks. I know it doesn't count until he does it vs Oregon, but if we are out here throwing 5 yard outs and strictly burning clock with the run game, that would concern me to some degree.

Allar needs good drop backs, multiple down field throws. He and Ross are still a split second off based on Ross's diving catch attempt during 3v3s. Whatever the offense is going to be, it needs ran. If we expect it to be strong vs Oregon, it needs to look really good out the gate.

Sounds like CJF was very forthcoming with info.

Was the any mention of the DT two deep?

Completely agree that we need to run downfield pass plays like we would versus Oregon. We can't expect Allar and the WRs to magically gel in the Oregon game without working on it in these three scrimmage games.
