Tariff settlement with Japan

That will put a lot of pressure on EU, Korea and China

On a similar note, if FL raised our sales tax 2%, we could drop all residential property taxes. The deficits predicted by the congressional accounting office are billshit. They ignore tariff income and revenues that will be gained from growth when the feds drop interst rates.
Powell has terminal TDS. He wants to destroy Trump more than to do the right thing. He will go down with his own sinking career.

The sales tax would need to increase by a much larger amount than 2%. Estimates are 6-10% for FL.

Regardless, that would be replacing muni taxes with state taxes ... the opposite of what a con is supposed to stand for (decisions at more local levels of government).

No one can predict "tariff income and revenues" because no one knows what the tariffs will be tomorrow, or the day after that, since your dictator/cult leader is changing his thoughts daily, in large part due to his Adderall addiction, and also due to his awful narcissistic personality disorder.

Powell is being the adult in the room. Interest rates shouldn't be touched until there's a clearer economic picture. Reducing interest rates right now would not be prudent, but all you care about is making your dictator/cult leader/false god look good in the short term, while not understanding what it takes to sustain long term economic health.

GAO and other bodies have specific ways in which they have to score bills. It's like Enron Accounting.

Effectively, the US always gets tax receipts right around 17% of GDP, regardless of tax rates. Therefore, tax policy should focus on maximizing GDP (ie lowering tax rates)

The USA selling rice to Japan seems strange.
Japan imported nearly 1000 tons of rice last year. They just don't have the infrastructure to satisfy their demand.

Looks like the USA trails only Thailand for the most rice imported by Japan, while Japan is the #4 importer of American rice with Mexico being #1.

We're not hearing much about Canada. I'd like to get that resolved.
Same. Haven't heard much. They may be digging in their heals which will not end well for them. 77% of their exports are to the US. https://tradingeconomics.com/canada/exports-by-country

And over 32% of their entire GDP is exports. https://tradingeconomics.com/canada/exports-of-goods-and-services-percent-of-gdp-wb-data.html

So their GDP is (.32*.77*100%) = 25% EXPORTS TO THE US. They either cut a deal or their economy will absolutely collapse. Trump knows he has massive leverage with these hosers.

According to the W.H. Japan is paying the 15% tariff, is this true?
this levy will not be an added tax for us on Japanese imports.

Is this tax in addition to the baseline tariff of 10%?

I don't follow the intricacies
of global economics, but what does the below decree mean?
Japan will give us 90% from their $550 US investment!

Good questions. My thought on the $550B is that I think Japan is going to have their companies invest in more research and manufacturing in the USA. My guess is that the Trump admin balanced "investment" with tarriffs in their negoation. If you want a lower tarriff, make a bigger investment. If you don't want the big investment, pay more in tarriffs.

Ya know, we've had lip service from past presidents stretching all the way back to the first Bush about leveling the playing field in countries like Japan. So many of those countries, including ones in Europe, have take protectionist measures to help develop their home grown industries. Hell, a perfect example is Airbus: France and the UK along with a couple of smaller countries fully funded and protected them until they could get on a footing to compete with Boeing.

Yes and you can even see them using the whole of government approach to these negotiations with the Philippines securing some military coordination in their deal which is likely us conducting joint military exercises that give them some additional deterrence in the region.
