Texas flash flood kills 24...20 still missing at youth camp

You only did half the ask. And it's not a meaningful response without the other half.

As an aside, is your contention that Fox News is not “mainstream media” or even “media,” as you suggested earlier?
I am not going to do your homework of Chase my tail on what is easily seen by the baked eye. Do your own work. In the meantime, cnn and MSDNC at all time low viewership do just snot everyone else sees what you cannot

Jerry, stop lying. Not only are there direct messages in there contradicting your claim, but Trump supporters also took so much joy in using the wildfires to attack the other side, it was inhuman. They even threatened to withhold aid unless they got certain things out of it. Abhorrent. And from the leadership on down through many of the followers (if not most), including your son.

As for the rest of your bloviating over-the-top nonsense, I live in the normal world. Not the crazy extremist fire and brimstone world you've created for yourself. We don't have to announce we condemn bad things out here in the normal world ... we just do. And I even went out of my way, knowing my audience was not normal, to assure everyone it wasn't acceptable behavior. And, yet, you still went off the reservation.

My "political side" is down the middle. I don't care for either extreme. The "vermin" are on both sides. Clearly. The rest of us are stuck here listening to the extremes call each other "vermin."

You're missing and misrepresenting and misstating the point...as usual.

I'm not talking about attempts, whether based on facts or lies, to politicize these disasters. Rather, I'm talking about the inhuman and vicious delight that some on your side took in the suffering of victims, a delight expressed by saying they "deserved" what they got as in the many examples compiled in Spanky's post.

I saw no equivalents of that sort in the links you posted. If there are some, then produce the quotes where anyone said Californians "deserved" to lose their homes and property...much less their lives.

Let me try and simplify this for you. Suppose somebody recklessly cancels his home insurance because he doesn't want to pay the bill. Suppose that his house then incurs damage in a flood or a fire. Suppose he then demands government aid in repairing the damage. Saying that he doesn't "deserve" the aid due to his own willful negligence is NOT the same as saying he "deserved" whatever misfortune befell him. In fact, there's a very clear line dividing the one position from the other.

And don't give me this laughable bullshit about you being "down the middle." You consistently and constantly align yourself with one side of the political spectrum and attack the other side. Therefore, for all intents and purposes, you've picked a side.

But getting back to the question of blame, I do think there are some hard questions to be asked regarding this horrible flood whose death toll is now over 100. As more information comes in, it seems to me that there will be some second-guessing of local officials. CNN has a surprisingly balanced and non-partisan look at what we currently know. Of course, hindsight is always 20-20, as the saying goes:

Wut? English, please.

No, this is not something that can easily be seen by the baked (I would believe that, in your case), or naked, eye. You claimed there was vital information that was disseminated, but the "media" was not a party to that. We learned that, apparently, Fox News isn't part of "the media," but we have no idea what information didn't appear through the media (which is, apparently, comprised solely of "ABC, nbc, cbs, NYT, wapo, cnn, msnbc, Chicago trib"). I see all the information being disseminated via the media, so how could I possibly understand your accusations, when my direct experience disagrees with your words?

The irony that you're withholding information regarding your allegation that others are withholding information is lost on no one.

You've spewed a lot of verbal diarrhea. You might want to get checked out. You may be ill with a karma-based sickness. Anywhere in here do you admit you were wrong, and both sides were callously wallowing in the "deserved" nature of natural disasters? If not, I have no further use for your lies.

As for the rest of what you say, I'm not giving you anything, Jerry. I consider you an extremely awful human. An extremist hell bent on perpetuating ancient superstition in a weak attempt to cover your black heart - full of hate and, ironically, judgment ... when you've illustrated absolutely no intellectual capacity or emotional maturity to judge anyone or anything in a reasonable manner.

I'm down the middle, politically. It's a you problem if you can't reconcile that.

You should direct your commentary re "balanced and non-partisan" CNN toward misspelled @Sherriff Coffee, as he's alleged that the "media" is withholding information.

Ah yes, we've now reached that inevitable portion of our program where AnyNameYouWish (his latest handle), having again been exposed and refuted, retreats to territory in which he is most comfortable: juvenile invective and name-calling.

Dude, the question is not whether I'm an extremely awful human and extremist and black-hearted and full of hate and all the usual blah, blah, blah. Rather, the question is whether you can produce any quotes from the variety of links you posted where anybody is saying that Californians "deserved" the suffering they endured because of the fire disaster earlier this year. And evidently the answer is no, you can't. But by all means, keep looking and if you do find something along those lines, give us a holler. Be assured that I will duly condemn it.

Meanwhile, below are a couple more examples of the type of people you run with. You know, there's an old saying: a person is known by the company he keeps. You've picked the wrong company...and the wrong Party:

And here we go, again.

Let's harken back to the beginning ... I replied without calling you any names, or utilizing any "juvenile invective," and your response was to call me "Cuckoo bird," and rant on with meaningless "juvenile invective" about past screen names.

And now you're here trying to talk about the "inevitable portion of the program"?!?

This is your shtick. Well, one of them. You're the problem, and then when others reply in kind, you blame it on them. Meanwhile, I still haven't called you a name. I also only gave you a reasoned rational dissection of your person. No "juvenile invective."

But you actually have name-called, and spewed juvenile invective. But someone else did it.

Just like when you run around the board spewing hate, while pretending to hate hate. You love it. It's your core trait. You think your weak, cowardly, passive-aggressive manner of spewing this hate is fooling anyone.

And then you finish off your latest bout of verbal diarrhea by again wrongfully trying to attach me to bad people saying bad things.

I wish all the folks who politicized the LA wildfires, and other disasters, were also fired for saying those victims got what they voted for. Folks like your son who said this. And many, many others ... on this board, in the links I provided, and across the country.

The "media" is about 90% negative on Trump. The only fair source is Fox News. This isn't me talking, it is them. Hell, both ABC and CBS paid Trump money for lying about him and distorting interviews by selective editing. All you have to do is watch what they do. Now add in the coverup of Biden's well-known loss of cognitive thought, the lies about Russiagate/Steele Dossier, Covington Kid, COVID origins, COVID vaccine claims, Lockdowns.......on and on and on it goes. Yet, you never learn.

Case in point:

Focus. You're apparently just here to cheerlead and propagandize, not discuss topics.

You asserted "DHS has put out several comments on the events leading up to the disaster, but the media isn't publishing that informaiton."

I asked you to back your claim, and you haven't been able to do so. Not only did you mess up by excluding Fox News from "media," but you only listed a few sources that you consider "media" and then you provided no evidence of information that they did not report.

Even your buddy, Jerry, admitted CNN has been pretty balanced in their reporting on this topic.

So, again, provide the information that "the media" didn't report, or admit you (ironically) lied just to try to bash people with different viewpoints.

There's nothing down the middle about you. All your doing is gaslighting folks here.

ANYW discourses on "verbal diarrhea." Oh the irony!

OK, you're right, it was wrong of me to call you Cuckoo Bird. That's an insult to cuckoo birds everywhere...none of which have ever done me any harm.

But speaking of verbal diarrhea, I note that in the midst of your latest bout of it, you have again produced no quotes from anybody who said Californians "deserved" the suffering they experienced due to the disastrous wildfires earlier this year.

I mean, seriously, find something -- anything -- on the order of the two hate-filled rants from your political allies that I linked in my post immediately above. This shouldn't be hard to do given how much of it you claimed to be out there.

Of course, in reality there probably is some to be found somewhere. It's just that there's not nearly as much on the one side as there is on the other, which may be why you're having such a devil of a time tracking any down.

So, you not only admitted that you name-called before you tried to insult someone else by falsely claiming they resorted to name-calling, as if it's something only a loser or mentally imbalanced person would do, but then you doubled down on the name-calling when the truth of the matter was revealed and you were caught in your lie.

And then you tried to pull the Shaggy defense of ignoring the evidence presented to you.

NOT a banner showing by Jerry, but I'm sure you'll claim victory, despite utterly embarrassing yourself in an attempt to wrongfully and childishly denigrate another.

Sorry, you were saying something about how the other side is filled with bad people ...

That's fine. You can chose not to discuss things in good faith.

Oh, don't get bent out of shape. I simply hit reply on the wrong post, and then fixed it. Considering your propensity to "stretch the truth," I thought you of all people would appreciate my humorous reply.

Except there were warnings.

This tragedy occurred in a location that has among the greatest risks in the nation of flash flooding, where kids in summer camps have previously been swept away to their deaths, and where warning systems are (apparently and incredibly) not in place

Except there were warnings.
I think he may be talking about sirens and other audible warning systems other than the NWS issued warnings. Growing up, the local rural fire company tested their siren every saturday at noon. Even though the siren was some 5 miles away, I could still hear it. Indeed, if someone had a NOAA weather radio on that night, they may have gotten the NWS issued warning but not any audible local warning which would be more accurate in locality.

A fair and in my opinion an accurate look at the flood and why it should not have happened and how to prevent future incidences such as this.

https://rogerpielkejr.substack.com/p/the-texas-flash-floods

I think that's a valuable and informative analysis...and it's actually consistent with the CNN report that I linked in a post above.

Most people, to include the state's Lieutenant Governor, are pointing to the absence of warning sirens. Every account I've read indicates that the National Weather Service did its job in terms of watches and warnings hours before the event.

It didn't help that the crisis exploded so rapidly in the middle of the night. Pitch black...a deluge of water...no cell phone service. You can imagine the scene. A total nightmare.

In a tragedy of this nature, you'll always have second-guessing and 20/20-hindsight dissection of what happened.

Still, at the end of the day, it seems like a disaster waiting to happen: a youth camp situated on a river basin with a history of flash flooding. That said, the facility had been there for 100 years and was safety-approved by state inspectors only days before the flood.

Meanwhile, the statewide toll of those killed or still missing continues to climb, with most of the victims in a couple counties. Camp Mystic took the hardest single hit.

One of my granddaughters just got back from a 2-week Christian summer camp in Wyoming and three others are going to New Hampshire next week to a similar camp there. Brings it all home somehow. My prayers go out to the families of those kids whose young lives were suddenly snuffed out.

A flash flood just occurred in NM. The one article I read claimed that it was due to a lack of vegetation from fires. Maybe that explains 5% of the problem and probably explains mud slides in California, but it's the hard caliche ground that catches and funnels the water. It's a SW thing. Building on it requires replacing the bucket with a jackhammer.
