Week 10: Penn State at #1 Ohio State (Noon, Fox) Game Thread

Grunk is a freshman who was put in a tough spot.
Grunk is a redshirt freshman from the 2024 class. A 2nd year player that should be ready to play if he is the type of talented player with poise that can lead a talented team to big wins. He'll get better and maybe he still has a great career ahead of him at PSU or elsewhere, but lots of 2nd year QB's play well. He made a few plays today, but also some poor decisions and some poor throws against a team that it would have taken an excellent QB performance to come home with a win. Or to have played a close game against the #1 team at their place.

But another way to look at it is if Grunk had the time to throw that the OSU did, and the WR's to throw to that OSU has, he would ahave looked a lot better today.

I'm not down on Grunk, and hope he continues to improve and battles for the 2026 starting job. But the top teams in college football bring players in that are ready to contribute to big wins by their 2nd season in college football. And if PSU is ever going to join the top teams it has to do that, including at QB.

Fair enough but like you said Sayin had very little pressure while Grunk was running for his life.

S&C. A lot of videos are out there showing the "Iron Lions" kicking butt on the weights, but in looking at Dennis-Sutton, are there any drills and lifting that would have helped him develop more fast-twitch movement? If he had been dedicated to say heavy squats, plyometrics, and 20-yard shuttles, then could he be more of a Abdul Carter player. The same with Singleton. Strength is great, but quickness has its place.
And OL footwork. Flat or twisted-footed matador blocks should never exist after a year in the program.

Meyer might have been thinking, "I should be able to get this team fixed in a year or two".
Meyer might be interested if he thought PSU was just a few players away from competing for a championship. I don't think he has any desire to inherit a total rebuild.

Yeah. Meyer has always picked his spots with teams ready to shine and get him a quick path to success.

Both UF and OSU weren't rebuilds, but rather one or two pieces away.

UF had no real competition either as FSU had an 80 year old coach and Miami was under sanctions.

At OSU he had to only improve enough to get from #2 to #1

Give him enough money to get 6-8 portal players in each of the next three years. The facilities already exist, except maybe the ice cream bar.

So, his predecessors were actually competent and those national championships were his to lose. Then Drinkwitz or Hartline it is.

I am not being critical of Meyer. I an simply saying he is not a rebuilder
Not true. When he took over Bowling Green it was a mess and about 30 or 40 players left in the first year because of how tough he was. notwithstanding that he had a good first year at bowling Green. When he came to Ohio State it was five and six the year before. Cardale Jones discussed that team on one occasion and said it was a miracle that they went undefeated considering what a mess they were the year before. When Meyer first arrived he call the Ohio State receivers a clown show. It is all hypothetical anyway because he is not coming to Penn State.

And why isn't he coming to Penn State?

I don’t know which would be better…..playing close until mid 3rd qtr and getting my hopes up again….or just getting blown out early and getting truly smacked.
