Week 11: #2 Indiana at Penn State (Noon, FOX) Game Thread

I still thought we'd hold them out of the end zone. We had a ton of pressure on Mendoza on that last play. He was lucky to get it off. Then the receiver just made an incredible play. I thought he was out of bounds. His foot was in by maybe an inch, if that. And the tight end made an amazing catch while falling back before that, even with good coverage. Those were championship-level plays. The big play before that that got them into our territory is more problematic.

Do you feel like you are a broken record?

Iowa... remember their last series?
Indiana, remember their last series?
UCLA, remember their last series?
Oregon, remember their last series?
Northwestern, it was the second to last series.

Stop it with the accolades for the other team. It's ridiculous.

Our DC is has blown 5 games like this. FIVE

This ^^^. As soon as they got the ball back on their last drive I had ZERO confidence in Knowles’ defense to hold on to the lead. Its like I expect them to fail at this point and would be surprised if they get off the field on a key series/drive

We need an exorcist before a coach because there seems to be a curse on our program. How else can you explain the **** that keeps happening.

Meanwhile, it turns out we may have a downfield passing game after all! They just need to call the plays! Who knew!

Also, we finally got the pass rush we thought we were going to have coming into the season. And we finally saw the Nick Singleton we thought we were going to see. And we seem to have a young QB with big-time potential. The kid made some throws today that we rarely saw from Drew...for whatever reason. All of this too late in the day.

Bottom line: in the end we found a way to lose regardless, which has become the trademark of Penn State football.

The curse goes back to maybe 2000. Fans told to lower expectations, the admin letting Freeh and others run roughshod over Joe, the program, and the Penn State brand, Bill OBrien cutting out, hiring Barbour, and Franklin mailing it in. Self-inflicted, clumsy stuff.

AQ Shipley doesn’t sound happy with the O line play. I remember seeing this play and what a lousy block attempt that was.

Dawkins and Shelton have been awful all season. I honestly think that if Cousin was the starter at C from day 1 this team wouldn’t be in this mess.

Also singleton only got the big run due to the umpire taking out the defender who would have made the tackle

Yeah. And he also got caught from behind.

Definitely not the Singleton we expected.

That being said it was still a good run. But 1, 1, -2, 2, 3, 59,.0 isn't what a good rb produces.

That's the running production of a wr on sweeps

I doubt that these players have been taught this stuff. The staff does not cover critical detail and I doubt that they any know anymore than "you gotta get over there and block that guy".
I would hope that at some point they’ve been thought what to do there but as the center, that’s Dawkins’s call and obviously since he’s the one who missed the block so bad he didn’t make the right call. Or at least can’t execute it. It’s been that way all year, cousins should be the center

That play was obviously bad but overall I thought the OL played well. In fact, Indiana did not get a lot of pressure on Grunk...not nearly as much pressure as we consistently got on the Indiana kid.

In the end we were beaten by an Indiana drive for the ages. Their QB is a total gamer and dropped some dimes to move the ball down the field while their receivers made a couple fantastic catches, in particular the one to move the ball inside the 10-yard line and of course the touchdown.

The turnover by Kaytron at the end of the half that resulted in an Indiana TD and a 10-point lead was a tough blow. Yet we fought back, outplayed Indiana in the 2nd half and took the lead late as our fans brought the house down. The stage seemed set for the kind of upset that might give us a desperately needed spark after a disastrous season. But it wasn't in the cards.

You have to wonder about the team's mental state going into East Lansing next week.

I have to apologize for jinxing us. Did not watch the game yesterday until 4 min to go. Was not interested in seeing Indiana blow us out.

Decided to tune in to see the final score and lo and behold we were up by 4 points with the ball. I should have turned off the Tv immediately, but instead watched us go three and out, give the ball back to Indiana who marched down the field after a sack, and scored. Wide open receivers everywhere, until the touchdown which was covered, but the kid made an amazing play.

I long for the day when PSU is able to either run out the clock, or drive down and score to ice the game, or actually make a defensive stop.

Should have never turned on the TV.

The nifty move by the ref on Nick's big run may have been our best block of the year.

The hallmark of a great back, which Nick isn't, is that you stop him...stop him...stop him...then boom!

In any case, he also made an excellent play on the 19-yard screen pass to score and give us a lead late plus he scored all our touchdowns yesterday. The point being, he showed some flashes we'd hoped for coming into the year.

The larger issue to me is that Singleton has regressed, and you have to ask yourself why. There seems to be a pattern in our program where guys with talent regress...or they come to us with proven ability and then don't show it...or they leave us after things don't work out and then become highly productive elsewhere. It makes you wonder, it really does.
