Week 13: Nebraska at Penn State (7:00 pm, NBC) Game Thread

Michael Robinson was interviewed at half time and he said that he's been in SC for a while and talked to a large number of players and every one wanted Terry Smith to be the next coach and that they also said they'd stay if he's named head coach.
They keep saying that hiring Franklin’s top assistant means nothing will change. I just don’t buy that. This team is playing with way more heart and effort since Terry took over. I don’t see the argument at all. Terry is not James.

I understand that Nebraska lost Raiola but what happened to their defense and our offense? Michigan didn't score like this against Nebraska. Neither did USC. Our OL is blocking, the guards are pulling, the TEs are blocking, the WRs are blocking. Where has this been all year? We kept watching guys like Tengwall show us replays of missed blocks. Did we simplify the schemes?
Terry
Smith

Players love him.

It may be that with all the support that Terry has with the players and it seems a good may alums that if he is not named head coach that the next head coach would be more hesitent to keep him on his staff. I was and still am hoping Terry would be a part of the next staff, but I also still believe Kraft wants a home run hire from outside the program. Would hate to see Terry not part of the next staff.... he truly bleeds blue and white, is a great coach and motivator, and belongs at PSU.

Of course, the "experts" saying it can't be Terry and why expect different results. Maybe because Terry doesn't approach football like a wuss like Franklin often did.
You’re right IANit. Terry demands respect the right way. It’s real tough love and I love it. He doesn’t seem like the type who needs the players to love him. It just happens naturally because they respect him and they love the brand that goes with that.

Greg, one of my concerns is that Terry might leave for VT if he isn’t hired as head coach. It feels like the desire is growing in him based on how emotional he’s been.

To me, he looks like the homerun hire right now. A lot of coaches have already signed extensions with their current teams, and the way the fans are rallying behind him and the players are busting their asses for him is hard to ignore.

After this run someone will hire him for at least coordinator/assistant HC. Possibly HC.

And wherever he goes he will take significant number of players with him. Both current and recruits. That alone will boost a lot of programs.

Terry seems to have expressed much greater love for PSU and staying at PSU than he has for following Franklin. Terry said he will strongly consider any opportunity to stay at PSU going forward. So I believe he would likely stay on, on a new staff, if he's given the opportunity. Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple of weeks. But it seems more important for PSU to get the guy they want than to get it done quickly so we may see this drag out somewhat...... who knows.

I just watched 20-30 minutes and the team looked much crisper under Smith than Franklin. The defense looked really good swarming to the ball. As an OSU guy, I am just hoping that no one nabs Hartline. Franklin is a moderately good coach but not a very good one. In my mind, he is roughly comparable to John Cooper.
