Week 7: Northwestern at Penn State (3:30 PM, FS1) Game Thread

Fanklin on Monday.

Reporter: "With the way the team has played and the results the last 3 games do you plan to make some changes in personnel for the Iowa game?"

Franklin" "Well, we just have to clean up a few things and we'll be fine. We have our most experienced players on the field. We just have to get everyone on the same page"

Time for a restart for this program. There isn't a player on this roster that has distinguished himself this season. Possibly Katron and Durant. And maybe the punter and field goal kicker. Where was Reynolds today?

Drew was doing too many commercials instead of working on football.

He is just too mechanical. Rarely can improvise. But the WR's are not doing much either. Hudson with 1 catch, and he doesn't know where the sideline is and misses out on another 10 yds of YAC. Pena is just a little weak receiver that made a name in the ACC with a heavy passing offense, not a real B10 WR.

Fire the Looney rule DEI BUM NOW!!!!
It's Rooney rule, and that's NFL only. I don't think Franklin was really DEI hire - he was a good hire at the time. He's done some good things. He's been a great recruiter and good ambassador. He's had us right there near the top much of his tenure. But he has not progressed much as a coach. This season, he couldn't handle the high expectations. He supposedly had alignment on everything that he needed and tried to convince us that brighter days were ahead. Maybe they are. But it probably won't be with him as coach.

This is the time to remind you that Joe Paterno had 7 undefeated regular seasons, and 5 of those years won the bowl game too. The two losses were in National Championship games.

JoePa would have a whole new lineup for next week. That's part of what made him the best coach of all time. Set expectations and coach each player to do their part of what it takes as a team. But also when it's time to make hard decisions, make them.

Edit: I particularly remember how Joe would put in freshmen talented RB's when they were talented. RB's just need to know how to run and not fumble to make a difference, where as Franklin uses the excuse that they have to be NFL blockers before he plays them. Was Dozier an NFL RB when he lit up Bama as a true freshman? Who cares. He was a difference maker with the ball in his hands and that was the difference in that game and a good many more. But keep trotting out Singleton when even the little we saw of Smith at RB showed more elusiveness and make people miss ability.....
