Why not Terry

Personally, I am all for Terry. The players seem like they would run through a brick wall for him. It can't be underestimated how important this is. It seemed to be lacking toward the latter part of Franklin's stint.
That plus his complete honesty and humbleness.

He admits he doesn’t know everything. Has a lot to learn. Not afraid to take advice from others.

He will quickly learn the ropes. Hire top notch people to build a staff.

I like his style.

I couldn't agree more. He is awesome. Unfortunately though, I am not very confident he will be the one. Hopefully whoever it is brings that same vibe.

Make Terry permanent head coach, bring in that fired NY head coach as OC, keep Knowles, and hire a bunch of advisors and assistants. Lets get it done Pat !

Kraft almost has to hire Terry now. All of the players want him and former players want him hired, plus the fans. There’s no worry on Kraft to get it right with Terry, as all of Nittany Nation wanted him, and he just gave what they wanted.
If Terry bombs as a head coach, Kraft can just hire someone else later.

Now what if he doesn’t hire Terry and the new guy is not a home run? That just puts more pressure on Pat to get it right when he could have hired Terry ,who for right or wrong is appearing to be the next Joe Paterno.

I think you git it !

Kraft needs to interview him TODAY. Ask him what would be his strategy. Does he have some idea of coordinators? How would he work with a GM? Work division?

If it goes well announce his hiring by the Rutgers game. The publicity of his team’s passion and excitement playing on national broadcast would be huge for recruiting and portal transfers. It would also greatly cut the number of players following Franklin or transferring elsewhere.

No other ‘big name’ hire would have even close to that impact. Those guys would be hired guns. Ready to move on to the Next Big Thing.

I agree. But I know of zero successful head coaches at major programs that are humble and honest.

Kraft is really involved in the football program, he could help Terry, and bring in a big name OC like a Chip Kelly type name.
Yep. And they really need to overspend on NIL just for 2026 to help in regaining program momentum. Anyone proudly wearing a 409 pin shows that he gets it. It's the difference authenticity and righting a wrong brings.

A reasonable, somewhat unbiased discussion on the matter. IMHO, a lot of people --especially former players and "vintage" fans-- understand football better than Franklin. It's toughness, smart playcalling, and execution, not explosive plays for the sake of explosive plays, slow RPO with shield blocking, and loyalty to underperforming players. It's recruiting "fighters" as Coach O'Brien would call them. It's what went on during the Nebraska game versus that of the Villanova game.

I'm to the point now that I really don't care who we get lol. Just get it done. As long as he doesn't micro-manage I'm good.
They need to announce the coach this week. Signing day is Dec 3……next friggin Wednesday!!!

And only Terry would have an immediate impact on recruits. Sign anyone else and we are in for a three year rebuilding process

I think Kraft has to wait to Sunday. If he announces the hire before the game and it is not Terry, the team might not play hard Saturday. If he is strongly leaning towards Terry, it would be ugly to hire Terry and then lose to Rutgers. I agree the hire needs to be complete ASAP after the game.
