Yikes! Gavin McKenna charged with Assault.

Maybe you'll remember Rashard Casey? LaBruno was the Hoboken police chief publicly accusing Rashard of aggravated assault before the 2000 season. Joe took a lot of heat for standing up for him. Joe was proven right, and Rashard was not prosecuted, because he didn't do it. That drama probably ruined Rashard's senior season.
There was also a case where a kid was harassing a player's GF. Knocked her phone out of her hand. That player got some friends and went to the kid's apartment. he wouldn't come out so they knocked the door down and beat him up. All were charged with assault and breaking and entering (both felonies here in Ohio). Joe made them clear the stadium because so many were involved we may not have been able to play.

The lady in charge, at the time, (looked like John Lithgow as I recall) had a policy to suspend any student until the situation was resolved. She had a kangaroo court where the kid couldn't bring his/her attorney into the meeting. i don't recall how that came out.

I also recall a RB accused of date rape. he missed the bowl and had his name tarnished but the charges were eventually dropped.

One thing I have learned……always wait several days or even weeks as the story always changes.

I don’t know what happened other than a serious altercation with one guy getting a broken jaw.

We will know more in a few weeks.
This. Lots of mitigating circumstances. I fully believe this gets knocked way down. Dude was vulger to his mother, and waited outside for him. That's a possible fear factor and perceived threat. We shall see.

Also, it was a team function. This was no different than me taking my boys when they were 16 and 18 to a sports bar to watch Penn State and eat dinner. Doggies is no different than any other sports bar or even Applebee's who have sports. They all have an R PLCB license. You've always been able to take children into a bar to eat, they simply cannot sit at the bar.

Mm

Yes I do remember that now.

Joe was certainly under attack for it.

The thread had some speculation regarding what appears to be odd and aggressive behavior of the Penn State senior who ended up with the broken jaw. Alcohol was one hypothesis. It could be other things as well.

There is always more to the story. Hope he was tested at hospital. Or hospital still has a sample that could be tested.

according to Mr. Google. Still a pretty significant charge. My guess is that they'll plead down to a substantial fine and some community service + probation. Any word from PSU on his playing status?

In Pennsylvania, simple assault is generally a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a $5,000 fine for causing or attempting to cause bodily injury. It can be reduced to a third-degree misdemeanor (1 year/<$2,500 fine) for mutual fighting, or elevated to a first-degree misdemeanor (5 years/<$10,000 fine) if committed against a child under 12.
