2025/26 Transfer Portal & Roster Changes Thread

I want to remind everyone that there are no blue chip recruits on Indiana and only 8 4 stars. Coaching matters.
I was at the 1986 NC Fiesta bowl. Miami had better players at most positions.
That Miami team was certainly loaded with talent. Respectfully, I think the PSU talent was underrated. I do not think PSU winning was the upset some of the experts se3m to think it was.

It must have been awesome to have been at that game.

Guess it depends on how long you've been alive.:)

"Back in the day"Penn State had starting QBs Milt Plum, Pete Liske, Tom Sherman, Galen Hall, and John Hufnagel (a star in the CFL).

But you are 100% correct that in the past 50 years or so, only Kerry Collins has been a regular starting QB (Matt McGloin might have gotten a few starts, but not many). Perhaps JoePa focused more on the running than the passing game; hence, all sorts of RBs started in the NFL.

Then came Hackenberg, McSorely, and Clifford. I think the latter might still be in the NFL, just not as a starter. We'll see about Allar.

The lack of developing a bona fide NFL-caliber QB might be the primary reason Penn State has not been a national champion since 1994 (yes, I consider that squad a NC). Michael Robinson was a superior leader and a solid dual threat QB, but he was a FB in the NFL.
I was very surprised that Blackledge did not succeed in the NFL.

Can’t wait to see how this goes. Maybe he actually plays and we see what all of us expected from him last year, or he doesn’t see the field again and then become a locker room cancer.
I really felt like he needed more of a shot but wasn't getting it. Franklin said he needed to block better. That may be. But he never developed his receiving skills sitting on the bench.

Indiana proves that better scouting skills, coaching and strategy trump stars.
And also little things like getting a Miami player to transfer to them just prior to playing them for the national championship. Now they have their playbook and their signals. Miami had a week and a half to prep for Indiana and change up their signals and some of the plays.

Division III? We go from a 4 star to Div III as the backup? All we got was a bunch of players from really bad schools and a lot from a really bad Big 12 team.
I understand your point and it certainly seems like a downgrade. For now, I am choosing to trust Coach Campbell and his staff. We really do not have a choice anyway.

I think it is complete garbage that he was allowed to transfer to Indiana right before the national championship game.

key part is "veteran depth" he's being brought in to be a backup
And for this QB, as well as the Center brought in from a small school, it's likely that he hasn't had the opportunity to participate in a S&C program like he is now at PSU. The QB, Connor Barry, will also have to compete with the redshirt freshman QB Alex Manske that transferred in from ISU for the backup QB spot. Not much invested in the D3 QB on Campbell's part, and he may just surprise some people as his resume shows he knows how to compete and win games.....

It really is an unfair competitive advantage that should not be permitted. It currently is and they can exploit it if they want. Of course, you had Ohio St staff trying to buy one of our players on national TV immediately after our game and that player pretty much shut it down for the year after that. This is the new "college" football. Michigan's sign stealing with about zero penalty basically told schools that they can do whatever they want. There are no rules.

It certainly appears that there are no rules, but my guess is that the NCAA will drop the hammer on one of teams that are not one of their favorites. I bet if it was us, the NCAA and the BIG would be glad to make an example out of us. Some team is going to get slammed so the NCAA can prove they are still relevant.

A directional michigan or something is about the only ones they touch.
