2027 Recruiting Class Thread

Talks about our hot start with the '27 class. 3 of the top 40 already committed.

Spell - #8, RB
Taylor - top 25, WR
Von Brandt - 36ish, OL, likely interior guy

They also talk about securing a QB. They believe Jarrard (his verbal to ND is my first time hearing of him) is the 1st domino to start the QB barrage of verbals.

I believe Borque has always been our #1 priority at QB, but I have no insider info to know what has been reported.

Getting to know the Penn State's In-State Recruiting Targets for 2027

If anyone wants to listen to this podcast and give us a summary, that would be spectacular. I don't listen to podcasts but am guessing that there is some good info at the link.

Non-paywall recruiting podcasts tend to suck. Essentially ALL recruiting info stays behind the paywall now and they don't tell anything.

If I get time to squeeze it in, I might give it an ear, but I've been going through the depth chart battle ones currently (and it's actually early to get info from these as the viewing window is small and I don't think they've seen the team yet).

a summary

Kemon Spell is taking 5 visits to games this fall. OSU vs Texas, ND vs A&M, PSU vs Oregon, FSU vs Miami, and Bama vs Tennessee. He really hasn't visited anywhere. Long road to getting him here (January '27 if he enrolls early).

Taylor (WR commitment) changing HS. Death in the family, going to stay with his dad. Is a step up in competition (2A to 5A).

Matthew Gregory PA WR. 10.6 100 in track as a sophomore. Big camp explosion in Baltimore. Coming to White Out.

Abraham Sesay. 4* DE. 6'4 210, good burst guy. Definitely after him right now.

Carter Bonner. Ath. Wants to play CB, coaches see WR. 6'3 180.

Gabriel Jenkins. Another ATH. We are likely team to beat. Could be a LB or a S. 6'1 190.

Big thing I'm getting from this video. If you prefer to read the info, it's behind the paywall, but probably the way to go if you'd rather read for 5-10 minutes than listen/watch a 53 minute video.

Yeah I listened to a bit of it. Mainly the Spell stuff. He could be the #1 RB recruit in the country. Only a rising Junior so his official commit is way out to Dec 2026. As you say a long, tough haul to reel him in.

Just curious what you thought, but his running style at times looks like a shorter Derrick Henry. He seems to run low when he's near the LoS but gets upright on his down field runs. Has all the tools. Power, spin, vision to shift and elude.

T Frank said LB position still in flux because Rojas couldn't play in Spring and Deluca played Will most of Spring, probably to see how younger LBers could adjust to Mike position. His bottom line: Rojas stays @ Will, then Deluca, Campbell & Speca probably spend lots olppf camp trying to figure out Mike starter/or shared reps. Indicated lots of hope previously about Wylie, so the most likely top 5 to see LBer reps are Rojas, Delua. Campbell, Soeca, and Wylie though no idea how positions - other than Rojas - settling out & how reps are shared. Said camp will definitely be enough time for LBers to understand their roles.
Other topic was Nickel. Said in Knowles defense the ideal Nickel has to be able to play man, zone, deep zone, and tackle in space. So, Tracy, Mack, or one of the non-starting CBs are best candidates, perhaps even Lane (Longshot given he's probably safety starter beside Wheatley). T Frank believes could see different Nickel starter throughout the season - opponent dependent and the emphasis needed, I.e., coverage or sure tackling. Reminded that Tracy struggled last year with being a sure tackler.

No other position battles discussed.

He looked really good to me. Good instincts, shifty moves, had power and breakaway speed. Once he got in the open field no one caught him except once that I saw.

He is a western PA kid (Mckeesport) and we do well recruiting in that area so I'm hopeful we can land him especially with our track record of getting top RBs.

I haven't reviewed the film, but I believe the 247 poster info mentioned that Mack was the Nickel at Bama in his snaps there. He also mentioned that he's probably best suited for deep safety with his speed. I'm curious where Mack shows up when we finally hear. He's a huge wild card. He could solify 2 spots or could be passed up. No telling.

Another spot where we will see how things shake out. I kinda think Knowles would rather have 2 main LBs, but this could be matchup dependent. Can De Luca be the Mike? Or is he in between a Will and the Nickel? Who gets the green dot and calls the defense? My guesses are actually Rojas or Wheatley just because I think they leave the field the least.

Wiltfong CB'd Bourqe to Michigan in the last day or 2.

VBR has an article about a 3* NJ Saf about to schedule his next visit. Might be Miller, but I don't remember the name.

Penn State football seeks recruitment redemption with class of 2027

Penn State football is an early favorite to land an out of state offensive lineman. Lucas Rhoa is ranked 267th nationally and 26th among interior offensive linemen. The Nittany Lions have a 44.2 percent chance of landing Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native. USC has a 13.7 percent projection to land Rhoa, the second most likely of his top four schools.

Penn State also has a good chance with another out of state recruit. Wide receiver Myles McAfee is the No. 12 receiver in the country from the class of 2027. Ohio State, Oregon, and Maryland also have a shot, but right now the Nittany Lions leads with a 42.5 percent chance. McAfee said that the Terrapins are still up there, though, given they're his home state team.

If he were to commit to Penn State, he'd complete its quartet of current top targets with wide receiver Khalil Taylor, offensive tackle Layton Von Brandt, and running back Kemon Spell.
