Franklin Fired -It’s over...

Forget about winning percentage. 1 win and 25 losses against top ten teams is unacceptable. After his B1G championship, did he ever beat a team with better or equal talent? I still say Cignetti for the quickest rebuild and playoffs.
I am still befuddled that the offensive coaching staff never tried intermediate or 20 YD+ passes. How many qbs want to play a dink and donk short passing offense. PS His B1G championship was won on several 20+ yard passing tds.
Kotelnicki's offense can only work 8f the qb is the best running back.

This was Franklin's offense.
K was able to wrangle a more normal offense, but the issues remained

1. Franklin insisted on playing Singleton
2. Stupid plays of Franklin's design
3. Our DC is arguably the dumbest guy in cfb

Spread HD
I understand you are likely being sarcastic with spread HD, but there was a similar problem. When that offense had a running QB, there was a level of success. When they tried to force a drop back QB into that offense, it was ugly.

But yet Franklin recruited mainly drop back QB's after he saw what Trace could do in the clutch with his offense.

Doesn't make much sense.

Yep. The players genuinely liked him. Look for many portals after the season….and recruiting flips.
The recruiting flips were already happening and that fact was also a likely contributor to Franklin finally getting canned. Franklin recently had a great start to the 2027 class with an early #1 rating. All highly rated players. But with the recent loses the WR (#3 in PA) Taylor decommited. Then it looked like Spell (McKeesport, #1 RB in country) talked looking around. May as well be starting over, and that's after a lackluster 2026 class that at this point isn't signed either.

Now 247 shows zero 2027 commitments. New coach will be starting over, but that's the way it is in the NIL era.

Don't see any 2026 decommits so far today. Some are sure to come. Hope the PA kids wait to see who the next coach is.

Seig, Brown and some others.

Gotta believe Kraft has big $ donors lined up for portal purches. I'm also guessing these big donors wanted a change.

Commits used to be school loyal. Looks like those days are a phart in a hurricane.

Zakee and company were rolled by winless UCLA a week ago, which set the stage for Franklin's shock firing today. So Zakee doesn't have a lot of credibility now with the indignation thing. Too little too late, Zakee. You had your chance against UCLA...and a week before that against Oregon in overtime. And y'all came up small.

Still, I respect and admire devotion to their former coach on the part of players whether past or present. But the point is, it's a bad look when a current player sends out a Tweet like that at a time like this. It also calls into question his attitude going forward this season.

I think this is a sad ending for a guy who did a lot of very good things at Penn State but who couldn't quite get over the hump and had to deal with the league's obvious bias against our program, which no doubt wears on a person.

In the end, it just wasn't happening for the guy and there comes a time, however painful, when a change has to be made. That time arrived with the spectacular implosion of a season that started with sky-high excitement and expectations.

All this said, to the fans who rained profane abuse on Franklin in the tunnel as he exited the field yesterday: you people are scum...and a disgrace to the university and its football program.

But even his dual threat guys were terrible look at Roberson. I mean, if you just get somebody who’s confident you win that Iowa game a few years ago.

Seig’s dad grew up in State College, I’m 99% sure that kid will stay committed no matter who the coach is. It’d be nice if he could become kind of the Adam brenaman of the group and rally all the recruits.

I don't believe it's a bad look. Player loyalty is a great thing. I would be proud of my son do have done the same. And then I would expect him to go all in for whoever is in charge the remainder of the season. These are young men that are used to expressing themselves on social media.

And it doesn't call into question his attitude for the rest of the season. It doesn't say anything about his love for Terry Smith who likely had a big role in bringing him to PSU as Smith has been Defensive Recruiting Coordinator for some time in addition to being heavily involved in the recruiting of any DB.

I'll never understand people rooting for the downfall of others. Or, the money bullsh&t. Franklin won above his recruiting and finished above his salary. His salary is 15th in the nation and people hated him for it. Let alone when he got here, our fans literally told him to win first, then we might consider investing in a program 20 years behind others. Unlike Kirby at Georgia who demanded immediate upgrades and got them.

Even Nevada's journeyman QB Chubba Purdy is one of those scrabblers who would have worked out in Kotelnicki's offense. With pro-style QBs, there is less margin for error.
