Size is great for clogging up the middle, but those big guys on the Ole Miss DL had some fat on them and were not quick. I'm hoping the new DL arrivals at PSU can twist and claw their way to the QB much faster.
Most sacks, qb hits, and pressures aren't generated by DTs. Their numbers on the season to include tackles are generally very low. Franklin seemed to like at least one smaller quicker DT to help generate pressure but that may be partly why the middle would open up and qb runs would gash us especially on passing downs.Size is great for clogging up the middle, but those big guys on the Ole Miss DL had some fat on them and were not quick. Need to add a couple DE and I assume MC and his team are working on it.
DTs with the most sacks and pressure, no, but having some of those is better than none. Size, along with strength and quickness are all good attributes to have in a DT. All I know about the newcomers is that they a bigger than the usual DT under Franklin. Most sacks, qb hits, and pressures aren't generated by DTs. Agreed but an injury or 2 away from disaster at the position. As you said, we need more depth.Do need quality depth at DE but it seems that Granville, kemajou and Robinson are a good nucleus of pass rushing talent at DE, which is where most teams generate their base pass rush.
In the portal environment quality depth seems the hardest to acquire. Players want to go to a team that they can be the star at their position, not be told (or untold but obvious to them) that they are likely the 5th or 6th DE and a rotational player. So getting those players on board may come down to the last minute of this current process.....Agreed but an injury or 2 away from disaster at the position. As you said, we need more depth.
Ideally that deeper depth is acquired with your most recent 2 recruiting classes who are developing and sucking up lower NIL I would think. In the portal environment quality depth seems the hardest to acquire. Was a freshman this year. Good future pieceAnother Iowa St guy
That would work for teams that have had good 2025 and 2026 classes, but too many of the PSU class of 2025 are gone and the 2026 class that Campbell salvaged doesn't have many, or possibly any, ready to play players. Of the 28 players in PSU's 15th ranked 2025 class at least 12 won't be with PSU this coming year. Olish, Outen, Exinor, Coleman, Jennings, Harris, Henderson, Coleman(RB), Troutman, O'Hara, Kritza, Adirika. And there are some others that haven't announced their intentions.Ideally that deeper depth is acquired with your most recent 2 recruiting classes who are developing and sucking up lower NIL I would think.

good pick up. Need another OT and DE but the roster is looking good. This third TE and a few of the other ISU guys were specifically brought in as depth pieces to make up for losing most of the 25/26 recruits. It looks like a good plan so far.6-foot-4, 290-pound OC from Texas St. Alabama, Oklahoma, Illinois, South Carolina, Utah, Florida, Houston, UNC and Kansas State all had offered, in addition to head coach Matt Campbell’s program. Riker started 12 games in 2025, and played well enough to earn a second-team Freshman All-American nod from The Athletic at the end of the year. Didn't give up a sack the entire year.
