Next coaching candidates

Lots of people think it is Ruhle. And that may be. But this is the decision of Pat Kraft's life. PSU has had double digit wins the last three years. The new coach will have to win at least 9 games with a Sophomore QB (unless we get a transfer). If he picks Rhule, they both go down together. If it were me, I wouldn't pick Rhule because he hasn't earned it IMHO. He hasn't led a program to a great achievement.

Rhule would be a good choice in any other situation. And maybe it works in a few years, but right now, it's got to be a major splash, like Meyer or Saban major. "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing"

Kraft cannot fire Franklin and replace him with Rhule. That would be an epic failure.
I have nothing against Matt, but he has had less than outstanding results in all his jobs post Temple. To be fair, IDK how much of Baylor/Panthers/Nebraska can be pinned on him, but he has never lived up to the promise of his success at Temple.

Franklin is everything you want in a CFB coach, except the actual FB coaching. The next HC needs to be someone that doesn't get outcoached, both in preparation, and in-game execution. I don't have an opinion on MR as an Xs and Os guy, but he hasn't been successful as HC across 2 P5 jobs and the NFL.

Back in 2014, there was a lot of talk about what top coach would want to come to PSU. At this point, I don't think there are any systemic barriers. PSU, to my surprise, has shown an ability to compete on NIL funding, facilities, and is in the middle of a $700M stadium reno. The buyout of JF shows that the AD is serious about doing what is needed to build a winner. This should be a sought after job and PSU shouldn't have to look too hard for talent willing to come to Happy Valley.

Matt Rhule will obviously be considered, but has he won a big game yet? Just seems like Franklin again.

Curt Cignetti can win a big game, but why would he leave Indiana? He seems to be able to win there and has much lower expectations. He does have a buyout.

Dan Mullen? Has PA ties, but seems a little boring. Has failed in high-profile jobs before.

Manny Dias? Likely a good recruiter, but not much of an upgrade over Franklin on game day, if at all.

Can't see Urban Meyer or Nick Saban coming to PSU. I like Lane Kiffin's sense of humor, but I don't see him as much of an upgrade over James.

Apparently Marco Rubio is a football fanatic (son is on Fl team). Suggested on the will cain show that rubio is so good at handling multiple jobs and is always willing to take on new responsibilities that he would be a solid candidate for HC. 😀

Well, then I'm putting Tom Homan's name out there.

Kraft isn't going to say it was Adidas who wanted him out, nor a singular donor. But both of those made phone calls
Saying that athletics is paying for it doesn't say much. It could just be a restricted donation made directly to athletics for the purpose of replacing Franklin. I don't really think PSU pays all that much when all is said and done, unless he decides to retire.
