Off Season Articles Thread

Lots of "ifs" about our defense front seven (or six, if we play a 4-2-5 base set). I have heard that the true freshmen are exceeding expectations. As a result, I expect them to get a lot of playing time against Nevada, FIU, and Villanova.
I think the young guys have to get considerable time in those warm up games. We are likely to need a couple of them down the road in real situations. The time to get them game ready is during the preseason games. You can't just throw them in cold against a top 10 team especially if a guy in the 2 deep in front of them gets dinged up and isn't available.

I would also use it for the young WRs and some developing OL as well. We need to find a gem or two out of the younger WRs and start giving game experience to OL that we'll need next season. The OL is experienced enough that we can put the preseason teams away and keep those guys fresh.

I just read that this is the last Thursday of the year without college or NFL football. Hall of Fame game is Thursday, July 31st.

Three DTs that @ this moment, according to CJF that are currently standing behind starters Durant & Ford: Xavier Gilliam, Ty Blanding, and Owen Wafle. CJF did add that camp will see if other DTs move forward into the mix. I expect beyond Durant, Ford, and Gilliam, this will be competition to the end of camp for those remaining spots. He didn't mention the DE position battles.
Regarding Allars development, there was mention again of Jim Knowles sharing his OSU scouting report and gamefilm review of Allar and PSU offense with Allar, Coach K, CJF, and offensive staff. Apparent eye opener. Hopefully self critique bears fruit for this year's game.

"One of Penn State's key objectives of training camp is defining a rotation at defensive tackle beyond Zane Durant, who is a potential All-American. Alonzo Ford Jr. needs time as he returns from injury, and Franklin also mentioned Xavier Gilliam, Ty Blanding and Michigan transfer Owen Wafle. It's the start of a working group."

Here we go. Franklin gave us 5 names.

No idea if it was mentioned, but I wonder if "I told my guys to play your WRs tight and nearly abuse them because i assumed you wouldn't throw it unless they gave up a step" was part of it?
