The "mayor" speaks. Impressive young man.
Film breakdown. Never seen this guy before. Best Available is his name on YouTube. Said he was at the Oregon game last year for Yahoo Sports.
First play he breaks down, Clifford on a Dig route drops the pass. Slightly behind him throw, yes. CB did have safety help, but Clifford ran the route very well (he's solid finding the opening in zone coverage). But a drop.
Yeah, I don't understand his analysis.
That was a completion if he led the receiver ... he didn't have to fit it into a tight window ... he just had to lead the guy a bit. Instead, he threw behind the receiver, right into where 2 defenders are ... and then he blames Clifford for the "drop." That's not a ball you should expect to be caught.
Didn't need to throw it sooner. He had to make sure the LB cleared, and he did. He just needed to put it another foot or 2 toward the ref, who wasn't in the way. Easy completion. It wasn't a drop - it was a pass defended, which was made possible by the poor placement. Clifford's having to slow, try to catch against his momentum, and the defender closes down and is able to knock the ball away because of the bad throw. Nothing in front of Clifford and 2 guys real close in back of him, you always have to err in front of the receiver there. This was something Allar did numerous times, and needs to clean up - putting balls "near" receivers, but in bad spots that are more advantageous to the defender than the receiver ... and then folks blame the receiver for not coming up with it. Here, it's caused by Allar's wonky mechanics ... hanging back too much on his throw, and not getting that back hip through. He's got that rocket arm, and he's too casual with his other movements.I think Allar could have thrown it a split second sooner and helped the play tenfold, but the ref was partially in the way and the further he led him, 2 more zone defenders enter the picture. At least, that I'd what I saw (that he didn't mention).
Clifford should have caught that pass. Was it perfect? Absolutely not. He still got his hands on it. That's the difference in playing more and getting targets vs not.

Appreciate the update. From the 247 poster...
"Full tackle scrimmage today in the stadium. Only player not allowed to be hit was Drew.
First and most importantly came out of it injury free.
Ross still no contact.
Pena is a pass catching machine.
Hudson with a beautiful TD catch over AJ Harris.
Koby is the real deal.
Smolik looking better than Grunk."

When asked about how much better Smolik looked and the what if scenario nobody wants to consider...
"Obviously it would be a huge step down in experience so can’t really replace Drew. Smolik has some wheels. He just sees the field much better and has adequate arm strength. Not sure what the deal is with Grunk but everyone will recall he threw an int on his very first throw and he continues to throw lots of Ints don’t think he can be trusted out there yet."
1) Sounds like we now have playmakers at wide out. You don't make beautiful TD catches over AJ if you aren't a top WR. Pena I think will move the chains and occasionally break free for something longer. We'll see if Ross can stretch the field but let's get him full strength first. From the 247 poster...

Based on previous teams, I would assume the backup quarterback would need to be a game manager, so if Grunk is throwing pics then that ain’t getting it doneFrom the 247 poster...
