When asked about how much better Smolik looked and the what if scenario nobody wants to consider...

"Obviously it would be a huge step down in experience so can’t really replace Drew. Smolik has some wheels. He just sees the field much better and has adequate arm strength. Not sure what the deal is with Grunk but everyone will recall he threw an int on his very first throw and he continues to throw lots of Ints don’t think he can be trusted out there yet."

Not sure what is up with Grunk. Not developing like we would like to see based off these reports. It is what it is if Smolik is the guy in '26, winning the job fair and square. A lot of time before that would be the reality.

The defense definitely lost something when he went down. Hopefully he can stay healthy and fresh for the full year. Need all of our experienced DL to stay healthy and fresh. The young depth can supplement but not sure if they would be ready to shoulder the load entirely if pressed.
