Next coaching candidates

With the portal dates and the December high school signing date, and now a 12 team, soon to be 14 teams possibly playoffs , Hiring a successful p4 coach away from a successful program during a playoff run is really difficult IMO. Even if they are interested.
Very good point. Ryan day also points out with respect to the portal that any team has the right to poach players from the teams in the national championship game, but those teams have no right to recruit to replace the players who leave.

Hiring out of convenience or necessity is not what I gathered from Kraft's press conference. It may have been that he made a mistake in firing Franklin at that moment without understanding the replacement dynamics, but I'm not thrilled if the options are people who will 90% guaranteed not deliver even a Big10 championship.

Yes, college football is a mess currently.

I don't have to. I actually know, and you have nothing to substantiate this. Furthermore, Rhule is not done losing games. But, hey, you do you.
I have plenty. I can 100% guarantee DeBoer is not coming to PSU, nor is Meyer. Rhule has been told that he needs to win at least 9 games this season (not including the bowl), including the game at Happy Valley. Other options are Elko, Drinkwitz, and Brady.

An exercise in gauging our expectations and who's an acceptable hire...
Identify and rank the best candidates by their combined abilities to 1) draw the interest of top 4* & 5* HS and portal talent and 2) get PSU football into the playoffs by year two of their tenure.

If it ends up being Rhule, then Kraft would have already known this, but what Kraft was unaware of is that most of the fanbase does not want Rhule. The press conference introducing Rhule would have to be full of rationalizations and gaslighting, and that would kill any momentum for the program. That would be too many middle fingers since 2011. from the BOT, Billy O, Slick James, and then Kraft.

I don't think it'll happen, because I don't think Nebraska will win 9 games. But if they do... prepare yourself.

It's all changing this year. Look how many coaches have already been fired, and more to come. Coaches will leave during the season and playoffs for better opportunities. Furthermore, we have the money.

How could you possibly leave Jeff Brohm of the list, because he is. DeBoer is absolutely still a part of this.

I mean, that's interesting. McCormick played high school football and I know he's a big-time Penn State wrestling fan so I have to assume he follows the football team as well.

Hard to believe the Senator didn't pitch Urban the vacancy, though I wouldn't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that Meyer would be remotely interested.

I know a lot of people don't like Urban and don't want him as our football coach. I'm not in that company. He's exactly the kind of hire we desperately need now...a guy who would move the needle off the charts and change the narrative instantly.

Unfortunately, I can't see it happening.

McCormick is also a very wealthy man. Perhaps he is willing to help with coaching staff payroll and NIL.

Whatever makes you feel better. 0.00% chance of DeBoer. I trust my source. No offense bro but I think I'm about 2 steps ahead of you on the grapevine. What I'm hearing this week, you'll probably hear next week.

Is Joe Brady still on the list?

After watching a few minutes of the UCLA-Indiana game, I've come to the profound conclusion that the new head coach at Penn State needs to know what winning football entails, how to recruit for it, and how to manage a game. Again, Xs & Os, blocking and tackling.
I think Kraft knows this and picked up on the smoke and mirrors from the previous coach.

What you get when qualifications are ignored.

He absolutely is high on the list. Keep laughing. DeBoer is also there as well. You're 2 steps ahead of no one. DeBoer is most likely not coming here, but his folks are absolutely talking.
