Agree. It was always close to meaningless, but it is helpful if you start high and suffer a loss or two (you don't drop out, maybe). Today, you just need to get a golden ticket to the playoffs, as tOSU showed last year. As a reminder, tOSU had two B1G losses and didn't even make the B1G championship game, losing to their arch rival in their last meeting. So, if you can go through the season undefeated or one loss, you'll have a ticket. Two losses, and you'd better be in a big conference.3 is good. Kind of shocked Klatt kept us at #1. He was noncommittal about it on a clip I watched last week.
At the very least, we'll be #2 after week 1. I would assume even if we were ranked the #1 by the coaches, the winner of OSU vs Texas would jump us anyhow.
All meaningless at this point.behind TX and tOSU. Klatt has us #1.

Welcome over to the new board! All meaningless at this point.
Regarding OSU, do you think we will beat them? If the answer is "No" as it should be for any reality based PSU fan who has witnessed our epic fails versus them, then they need to be ahead of us. So, if people think we are #3 then they are either #1 or #2.Interesting to me that although it's a known that oh-high-ya has a top 2 or 3 talented roster in college football that with all the talented starters they lost as well as having a new QB that's not even decided at this point that they would still be preseason top 3.......
But their recent track record of replacing QB's under Ryan Day does seem to be unmatched in college football.
All the top teams have some question marks:Regarding OSU, do you think we will beat them? If the answer is "No" as it should be for any reality based PSU fan who has witnessed our epic fails versus them, then they need to be ahead of us. So, if people think we are #3 then they are either #1 or #2.

Isn't the UGA QB (Stockton - sp?) the one who played in the SEC title game and their first round CFP loss to ND? If so, he is back for this season. He certainly wasn't special in those two games.Add in:
-Texas replaces their whole DL I believe. (Former Lion Cole Brevard will likely start after 2 years at Purdue)
-UGA - replacing QB, loads of talent on the defense, and they had worse issues at WR
-Oregon - they replace everyone save for 5 players and one of them is now hurt and out for the year
We have the least amount of questions of anybody. Feels...strange?

We play at Ohio St. That is worth at least 3 points if not more. We can be the better team and still lose that one. Probably most are predicting this including vegas.Regarding OSU, do you think we will beat them? I don't get the love for all 3. I know that they have talented young players and elite recruiting. But they lost so many starters that it would be really difficult. Texas is in the best position of these 3. Alabama is not being mentioned in the top 5 by many but they return as many starters as we do. I think they finish ahead of UGA and possibly Texas.Add in:

But it seems like Oregon did the best job of replacing high level starters with high level portal replacements, in addition to their roster players they have developing. Portal additions included the #1 Safety and #1 OT in the portal and some other very highly rated players at a number of positions. They spent $$ to get them but they got them.... Fortunately for us they are breaking in a new QB and their top WR may be out with injury, but I'm glad PSU playes Oregon relatively early in the season.I don't get the love for all 3.
