3 is good. Kind of shocked Klatt kept us at #1. He was noncommittal about it on a clip I watched last week.

At the very least, we'll be #2 after week 1. I would assume even if we were ranked the #1 by the coaches, the winner of OSU vs Texas would jump us anyhow.

Agree. It was always close to meaningless, but it is helpful if you start high and suffer a loss or two (you don't drop out, maybe). Today, you just need to get a golden ticket to the playoffs, as tOSU showed last year. As a reminder, tOSU had two B1G losses and didn't even make the B1G championship game, losing to their arch rival in their last meeting. So, if you can go through the season undefeated or one loss, you'll have a ticket. Two losses, and you'd better be in a big conference.

Interesting to me that although it's a known that oh-high-ya has a top 2 or 3 talented roster in college football that with all the talented starters they lost as well as having a new QB that's not even decided at this point that they would still be preseason top 3.......

But their recent track record of replacing QB's under Ryan Day does seem to be unmatched in college football.

Regarding OSU, do you think we will beat them? If the answer is "No" as it should be for any reality based PSU fan who has witnessed our epic fails versus them, then they need to be ahead of us. So, if people think we are #3 then they are either #1 or #2.

All the top teams have some question marks:
- OSU @ QB & DL
- Texas @ OL (4 starters graduated) & QB (Manning has to rise to the hype level)
- Georgia: QB consistency and rebuilding defense though lots of very talented depth returns
- Clemson (question about #1 RB position and both lines have to perform better than last year)
- ND (will have first year starter @ QB)
- LSU (can Kelly get all that talent to gel?)
- Alabama (New QB and defense that struggled last year)
- Oregon (New QB and lost #1 returning WR to long term injury as well and key defenders graduated)

Wide open year. I don't think there is a clear #1 so PSU has a great opportunity if the prove to themselves they can defeat teams with equal or more talent. If this team gets a confidence boosting win against Oregon it could bode well for games @ Iowa and Ohio State.

Add in:

-Texas replaces their whole DL I believe. (Former Lion Cole Brevard will likely start after 2 years at Purdue)
-UGA - replacing QB, loads of talent on the defense, and they had worse issues at WR
-Oregon - they replace everyone save for 5 players and one of them is now hurt and out for the year

We have the least amount of questions of anybody. Feels...strange?

Isn't the UGA QB (Stockton - sp?) the one who played in the SEC title game and their first round CFP loss to ND? If so, he is back for this season. He certainly wasn't special in those two games.

Yessir. I've not followed anything to do with UGA yet, but I believe he is the heir apparent.

We play at Ohio St. That is worth at least 3 points if not more. We can be the better team and still lose that one. Probably most are predicting this including vegas.

I don't get the love for all 3. I know that they have talented young players and elite recruiting. But they lost so many starters that it would be really difficult. Texas is in the best position of these 3. Alabama is not being mentioned in the top 5 by many but they return as many starters as we do. I think they finish ahead of UGA and possibly Texas.

Texas returning starters: Offense and Defense

[3] Quintrevion Wisner (RB), DeAndre Moore Jr. (WR), DJ Campbell (RG)[6] Anthony Hill Jr. (LB), Liona Lefau (LB), Trey Moore (LB), Jaylon Guilbeau (CB), Malik Muhammad (CB), Michael Taaffe (S)

UGA returning starters:
[4] Dillon Bell (WR), Oscar Delp (TE), Lawson Luckie (TE), Earnest Greene III (LT)[3] Christen Miller (DL), C.J. Allen (ILB), Daylen Everette (CB)

Oregon returning starters: (note, Evan Stewart likely out for the season)
[2] Evan Stewart (WR), Iapani Laloulu (C)[3] Teitum Tuioti (OLB), Matayo Uiagalelei (OLB), Bryce Boettcher (ILB)

But it seems like Oregon did the best job of replacing high level starters with high level portal replacements, in addition to their roster players they have developing. Portal additions included the #1 Safety and #1 OT in the portal and some other very highly rated players at a number of positions. They spent $$ to get them but they got them.... Fortunately for us they are breaking in a new QB and their top WR may be out with injury, but I'm glad PSU playes Oregon relatively early in the season.

That's simply it, but I think the portal era and NIL has changed things. High end kids that don't start are moving on and starting elsewhere. That affects depth.

Bama is another. Their success is synonymous with Saban. Having their worst season since his first the year after he left is NOT a good thing. I don't buy them as a shoe in top 8 team under DeBoer until it happens.

1st round RBs are extremely rare. Corum/Edwards was a great combo, Corum had the injury issue plus he wasn't ever going to run a 1st rd 40 time. Edwards had the 40 time, but he absolutely was mediocre during their title year and did less last year (Mullings ended up being the bell cow).

I love our combo, but I doubt either are 1st rounders. My only fault with their tweet.
