Week 6: #7 Penn State at UCLA (3:30 PM, CBS) Game Thread

It started with Surma's disrespectful call to Joe. Then bringing in Clinton fixer, Lanny Davis, and also Louis Freeh, and George Mitchell. Then removing the statue. Then bringing in a destructive AD who built her empire and locked in Franklin's forever contract with Trustee approval. Complete destruction of PSU's making. We. Are.

Phils pull the same shi+. Can never hit curve balls, especially in playoff games. They swing away for the fences, but the lineup never gets fixed. I guess it all comes down to signing big, long-term contracts.

Paterno never let one player beat him. His success against eventual Heisman winners was stunning. Iamaleava single handedly dismantled Franklin/Knowles today. And the kickoff lapse was entirely inexcusable.
Paterno also never let the aspirations of one player take precedence over the team's needs, that I recall. I remember Curt Wartner literally crying early in the 1982 season because we'd gone to the air a lot and he wasn't getting the carries he expected. We won a national championship, and both the passing game and Curt Warner were instrumental in the championship game.

UConn 51, FIU 10.
Franklin, Kotelnicki, Trautwein, or some "Princeton Grad" GM, or something? Why is Penn State's roster and playcalling bad? It almost feels like sabotage or a scam.

Thought the constant reshowing of last year's Ioane block on the UCLA DE was over the top, maybe cruel. Tengwall was even over-the-top goofing on UCLA in his game preview podcast last week. Good bulletin board material.

I don't condone what Michigan did. They probably cheated in a way that affected games. But Michigan changed its approach to finally beat Ohio State. They recognized that Ohio State liked to play a speed game, and turned their games into slugfests instead. Franklin never seems to change his approach when game planning. And if the game plan's not working, he can't seem to adjust on the fly. I wonder if USC is sitll interested, if they ever were.
UCLA is looking for a coach

Pay Equity, or how members of a group perceive the fairness of their compensation based on their perceived contributions versus that of others in the group. It could be a cause dissension.

The game is still a blur, but the very last play for PSU UCLA must have had everyone on the line coming to run blitz to have had so many defenders in the backfield so early. Why wasn't anyone smart enough to call a TO and get into another play. A quick slant to the TE or something else. It was the most important play of the season as failure would knock the team basically out of playoff contention. Franklin did an especially poor job of clock managment and misuse (failure to use....) his timeouts. He still has them in his pocket....

Why is it that the big games make Franklin look like the stupidest coach within the legit top 20 teams?

If I was running the PSU football team as a business where business success was wins and losses as well as revenue I would look at the $700 million that is earmarked for the stadium and for the benefit of the goals of the business cut $50 million from the stadium budget to pay Franklin's buy out.

I worked on the capital budget for a large U.S. manufacturing company and project execution and budgets were adjusted regularly. PSU probably doesn't actually have anyone in authority that has worked in the real world though.........

Bc deep down he’s just not a very smart guy. If he was he wouldn’t be so inept at simple clock management, continuously repeat the word “obviously” during high stress interviews, etc….he’s able to get by but when push comes to shove he crumbles and doesn’t take ownership and deflects with excuses

I think they can come up with the money somehow if there's enough will to move on. If Franklins going to be fired, I think it will be at the end of the regular season.

They can come up with the money. They always find money for whatever they want to do at PSU
