Week 6: #7 Penn State at UCLA (3:30 PM, CBS) Game Thread

It sounds as if the decisions and team dynamics are not good then. Winning and not hurting Singleton's career and feelings would seem to be objective for the players and coach's. And for a fanbase that forks over thousands per year to see this team perform.
These decisions should never be made with NFL ramifications in mind. It should be about winning the game.

Allar and Singleton will not survive NFL camp.
The OL, Trautwein, and Kotelnicki need to answer for the run game. And the bloom is off the rose for Knowles.
I'm a bit disappointed in Knowles so far. But I think the overall talent he's working with isn't where it needs to be. Losing Rojas really hurt.

The product is the team and not the stadium. But I guess cronies aren't involved with the former. Oregon's stadium seats 55k. Let that sink in.
They have Phil Knight and his $35 billion net worth backing them, but the state has 1/3 the population of PA. The stadium size isn't a problem as much as our lack of super-wealthy donors willing to write checks for players.

Yes and that's a problem of our own making.

PSU decided it was no longer about educating the regulars people and instead tried to be some exclusive University.

It failed miserably. And we lost tens of thousands of potential donors.

Amazing what a few years of bad management can do to a school.

I agree except that it you destroy a kid's NFL career you can lose recruits. You would also anger the people who put NIL money behind the player you benched. It's not an easy situation.

That said our top RB is Allen and he only got 8 carries. It was apparent that our D was a mess when the score was 17-7. A heavy dose of Allen might have given the D time to rest. Instead UCLA doubled possession time.

So, Penn State has no billionaire donors? I guess it's not a university that produces them. Kind of like Shippensburg.
We have more Fortune 500 CEOs/former CEOS than they do, for sure. The only confirmed billionaire I know of is Pegula. He sold mineral rights to get there.

Yep, why would the PA business man who's son didn't get accepted to main campus when a bunch of foreign students that just want a way into the U.S. did get accepted. It's not the PENNSYLVANIA State University like it was when I attended, which is why I wouldn't give the University a dime. Well, another reason. The week before the President took Joe's statue down I wrote to him telling him that if he took it down I'd neve donate another penny to PSU. They have mismanaged the University and the football program as well......

They are not destroying a kid's career by not playing him when he is ineffective. The NFL GM's can see he's not an NFL RB. The only thing continuing to feature Singleton is doing is destroying the 2025 PSU football team.

Paterno never let one player beat him. His success against eventual Heisman winners was stunning. Iamaleava single handedly dismantled Franklin/Knowles today. And the kickoff lapse was entirely inexcusable.
When you are playing a despirate team it's the exact game where you have to expect out of the ordinary risk taking by that team. Big Game James ......

The NFL will find talent. Remember, Matt Cassel never started a game at USC and got drafted.

Singleton should have gone to the NFL after last season when he might have had a couple of GM's still fooled. Too late for him now. And it's too late for Big Game James to put together a resume to get into the 2025 playoffs.

Well stated. And actually quite close to home.

My youngest son was a graduate of a top 10 PA high school but didn't do real super on his boards. The son of two PSU main campus grads. He actually was luke warm about PSU as he kind of was in the mind set of "been there, done that" since I took him up to PSU pretty often. But when he wasn't accepted to main campus it left a bad taste in my mouth. He likely wouldn't have gone there any way. He ended up at Dayton, where I've had an actual basketball program to root for for the last 10 years and is a two time Masters seminaty graduate on his way to a Doctorate, but what happened to him with PSU is still a reminder to me of what PSU has become.
