Next coaching candidates

Do you think he can afford to wait for a coach like Cignetti who probably wouldn't be available until after the season (Jan 8th-15th)? Many existing recruits will be gone and other schools will have already gobbled up players who entered the portal on Jan 2nd?
Cignetti isn't coming, and he never was. We are in on some very big names and they have shown interest. Yes, we will wait a good while.

Elko, DeBoers, Drink.
Elko doesn't seen likely because his team is 7-0 and A&M's pockets are as deep as PSU's pockets. Even if he did come it wouldn't be until mid January after a lot of portal kids have been scooped up.

Same is true for DeBoer. Why would he leave Alabama for PSU?

Drink is the 11th highest paid coach in the country and his contract goes through 2029. He's been a southern coach since high school and probably has limited connections in PA, MD, NJ area. Why would he want to inherit the PSU situation?

I think Saban made it pretty clear that he isn't coming and I don't think Meyer is interested in a complete rebuild.

I think our best bet is somebody like Hartline or Joe Brady. Both would see PSU as a move up and could be available before things fall apart much further.

The way to get Meyer interested besides his compensation IMO, is to commit big money to HS recruiting and the portal. I think that might be intriguing to him.

Okay. I'll concede somewhat on Dillingham due to what he's done at ASU. I see it up close cuz I live 20 minutes from Tempe. His receivers are good, similar to USC's, and get wide open 70% of the time, but without Leavitt at QB, nothing gets done on offense. His defenses are sufficient and I think he appreciates the run game from his having Skattebo on board. Dillingham is a results guy who brings enthusiasm. If he's smart enough to know that the Big12 and Big10 require different approaches, then why not?

JMO but I think Meyer might come here if something tragic happened to Frankin and he would be inheriting a good roster. But at this point in his life I don't think he want's to go through the grind of a 3 year rebuilding process.

If the money is committed, it could even take a year. Apply the Cignetti method but go after 5*s and high 4*s from the portal, especially at critical positions like QB & WR. It's uncharted territory and could be a "fun" challenge for the right person.

Easy schedule next year, Kraft should be pushing that to anyone he calls. Same with the new Adidas deal. If the right guy is hired and he has a plan, this could be a 9 win team next year.

Don’t know that it takes three years with the portal. That said, if Meyer was the man, we probably would have heard something by now. At least strong rumors.

I might be switching back over to the Meyer camp. Offer $12m and take it from there. Creative math says the $5m buyout not paid for Rhule makes it $7m. Get him immediately and start recruiting.

I mentioned this before but Longhorns featured in two ads (Bud Light & the Bevo on the loose one); two USC ads (two USC gals(?) sache into a ND bar & the fan in Trojan armor); a Buckeye sitting in the Michigan section; LSU guy walking through a Bama tailgate; Gator fan getting tattooed. Another reason this hire needs to be big. It's the rehab of the brand after ten years of false starts. Other programs, some mediocre, will always be showcased.
Meyer isn't getting this job. He's way down on the list for good reason. He won't take ownership of anything. Why no one has hired him.

Hartline and Brady are not happening. Hartline is too big a risk and Brady doesn't have the experience. He also wants the NFL. Don't count of coaches not leaving early, winning or not. Everything is different now with just one portal and coaches know this. Penn State will be paying 14-15 million dollars for their next coach. We have the money.

I watched some of the podcasts with Meyer as a guest or host like Triple Option. He's never asked directly about his position and gives generic, non-deep opinions when the replacement speculation comes up. 🧐

Isn't everybody a risk?

Not remotely like Urban. Bigger fish way above on the list. We have to be honest about Brady. He's had phenomenal QB's. Also, he never called games at LSU, and was horrible in Carolina. He has zero organizational experience. Hartline has zero experience. Pat isn't taking that kind of chance.

Who are the low risk big fish?

I think a lot of fans are hoping to attract proven coaches away from top 10 schools. That doesn't seem realistic.
