Next coaching candidates

I think much is dependent on how Rhule finishes the season. If they run the table or finish 10-2 with a win in Happy Valley it would be a much easier sell than if they finish 7-5 with losses along the way to Minnesota or UCLA.

A Big Home Run is required. For the donors, the fanbase, the infrastructure invested, the current players, for Pat Kraft, for how Franklin was terminated, the brand, and for holding and attracting HS & portal recruits. The media coverage has also been massive, so no skimping. And the sooner, the better. Waiting until December or January is too late. Therefore, Meyer.

Here's another one to run up the flag pole...
Meyer as GM in a three-year deal with Rhule (or another) in a five-year HC deal, provided its mutually agreeable. Duties will not overlap and will be clearly defined. They probably agree on the type of system and the type of players needed, and both get out on recruiting visits.

BTW, noise about Napier getting canned any second now. A move based on PSU now interviewing top coaches, maybe someone the gators covet?

Who would be a big home run?

Meyer isn't happening. Anyone who thinks that is delusional. Florida will target Kiffin, Drinkwitz, and Franklin. Maybe Golesch.
No delusion. The ingredients are money, resources, short term contract, money, and money. It has been shown to work in other industries.

And about some of these names moving the needle. Does any CFB fan remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when Mizzou hired Drinkwitz? And who knew of the QB whisperer working for the Buffalo Bills?

Urban Meyer on the triple option podcast stated Penn State will end up paying $70 million for the various buyouts and having made the decision to pay 70 million he feels that Penn State already knows who the next coach is.

He also stated that he feels that the bottom fell out of the season because of locker room problems or problems with the staff. Says he has no inside knowledge per se but that based on his long years of coaching, he feels strongly that one of the two issues is caused the problem.

Don't have time to post a link right now. Will post it later.

I did watch that discussion, and I suspect he's correct. If not HC, then at least he'd be great as a short term GM just to get things quickly ironed out. He's does have PSU familiarity and connections.
It's mind-boggling how people running organizations don't recognize the softer stuff like culture, leadership, pay equity, fairness, etc. The things that can make or break effort and performance.

I wonder if we'll have to pay Franklin $50 million. Didn't I hear that he has to look for another job and we would only pay him the difference? But yes the new coach might need us to cover a buyout and the cost of any new assistants.

I also wonder if PSU already has somebody in mind. I sure hope so because we're rapidly losing recruits and players. Waiting until the middle of January after the season ends would be devastating. Of course Kraft talked about a national search and something like that doesn't happen quickly.

What Meyer was saying was saying was that they had to pay off all the assistant coaches and the buyout for a new coach on top of Franklin.

Drinkwitz was at Appalachian State just before Mizzou. Brady was a GA @ PSU several years ago, then was QB coach and Asst OC (probably passing game) @ LSU when Joe Burrows led them to the Natty.

What "needle movers" do you think we could get? We probably can't get any of the top 10 coaches from existing powerhouse schools because it wouldn't be a move up.
Pat Kraft was adamant about being aggressive with money and resources to win championships. That's all I can go on. If Drinkwitz is a possibilty, then it is what it is.
